Hey everybody, you guys feel like doing the book exchange again this year? I thought it was super fun last year.
I've had mine from last year at the top of my physical TBR list since I got it and just keep not reading fiction. Feel bad about it.
I actually bought a copy of that book recently at a local bookstore. At this rate I'll be reading it before @Garrett haha
It's fun if not fluff. One of the very first series I read, bought it in like 9th grade simply for the badass cover
I'm reading a book I love, that's rather large and complex and I need to take my time with it (Children of Ruin), and it's killing me because I've got the new Mistborn sitting right here staring at me. I've looked at the maps about a hundred times. edit: lol finished the book but was at work and realized I forgot the Lost Metal at home. A final little slap
I'm gonna say let me know by December 7 if you're participating in the gift exchange and I'll get it sorted then? That work? Hopefully that gives people who don't obsessively check fora time to respond lol.
We'll sort it if you want to be involved! I don't mind shipping to the UK and in reverse would be totally fine with a digital copy of something, for example. I'm sure we can accommodate your unfortunate living circumstances :P
https://www.orbitbooks.net/orbit-new-voices-2022-ebook-sale-us/ I have read exactly none of these, haha.
Okay last call for gift exchange. Me, @Garrett, @GBlades, @Vivatoto, @theagentcoma. Anybody else want in?
Messages have been sent out! Like last year, a perusal of Goodreads profiles is probably in order, haha. No limitations or requirements or whatever, just send something cool. If anyone runs into any trouble, let me know and I'll help sort it out. everybody send Garrett a bunch of Renshai copies until he reads it
It took me forever, but I really, really enjoyed Jade City and I thought that while it wasn't an entirely new story, it did a lot of things that I didn't expect, especially with Lan's death, I felt for sure it was a fake out and also the end with Andon refusing to accept his jade though we'll see if that arc remains, or if it follows a more familiar path by the end. I'm about 15% into the sequel. There's a larger political aspect to pay attention to, so I have already had to reread a few sections to make sure I'm following the 'new' players, but it's as good so far (and from what I've seen online, most people rate each entry in the series as improving on the last). I am not sure what I will go to after this series. I'm so far behind on Sanderson but I don't think I'll ever catch up there. I'm also intimidated now as from what my friend has said, the connections between the series are so numerous. I feel like if I read them and began to discuss them, people would school me on stuff I missed and then I'd end up self conscious like 'wtf... did I even read them?'. I don't participate enough in here for the gift exchange but that's neat ya'll do it. Maybe next year I'd like to have contributed more, read more and jump in.
