I just finished The Expanse, so I’m taking a break for a few other books before coming back to this series. I’m curious how I’ll feel.

 

everything I've heard about their new series makes it sound not great. Maybe they lost their fastball as a team.

 

the lisp was absolute necessary for Glokta haha. one of the best characters in audiobooks. wild

 

yeah it was the gate of the feral gods and he 100% sounded like Patrick Warburton lol

 

I think I quit the expanse around book 4 or so. I really liked the first 3 but then was just over it.

 

Expanse was one of the weird series where book 1 and book 9 were absolutely my favorite, then the middle of that was varying levels of enjoyment and meh. Still loved the journey overall though. Also good audiobooks

 

I enjoyed The Caretaker narrator. did a good job changing her voice only slightly for the different characters

 

Started the Coffin Moon audiobook last night

 

I'm trying to remember how far I made it, and I can't quite pin it down... I know I read the first 3 as they were coming out, and I remember thinking it was gonna be a trilogy for a while. I didn't make a conscious decision to stop though, I read up to where they were at the time, and then just didn't pick up the new ones as they came out because 9 books just sounded like too many to me

 

Loved the whole expanse

 

And loved the show

 

thankfully they are relatively quick and easy reads but yeah, 9 books is a task.

 

I could not continue with the Devils audiobook. I don’t know if it was completely the narrators fault, or if I just wasn’t feeling the book either, but yeah, I got to the point where I was dreading pushing play. I would say don’t give up on audiobooks as a whole though.

 

I think I gave up on the expanse show around the same time story wise

 

Been reading east of Eden because I realized over the last 12 months I’ve only read sci fi and fantasy other than one non fiction book. Needed to take a break.

 

it's a shame we won't get a show for books 7-9

 

I've always been afraid of super long series since Wheel of Time as a teenager where it ballooned out to 12+ books and then the author died before finishing - I would possibly consider tackling it now that it is all done and it is definitively concluded at 9

 

Yeah there’s always hope they’ll bring it back in the future which would be fine since it takes place decades later. But not likely.

 

unfortunately the Alex actor is a creep and that character has a massive role in those books iirc. can always recast but I thought he was perfect

 

well they already took care of that in the show lol. So they’d just hire someone else and there you go.

 

I admittedly haven't watched the full show haha i know they removed him in season 6 or whatever

I've not watched it yet. She's Elaida in the WoT show on Amazon. She nailed how awful she is, haha.
