I actually dug it but I'm pretty easy to please and a sucker for a found family narrative. Also I didn't expect an Underoath reference lol.
I got some new books on Prime Day! I’ve been reading more lately when the baby goes to bed, since I’m on summer break and don’t have to be up early. I haven’t read any of these authors yet, but I hear good things!
The Gone World was absolutely fantastic. Starts off structured like an investigative mystery, plays around with time travel, alternate universes / realities, actually pretty horrifying at parts, loved the protagonist, and Tom Sweterlitch is a great writer. It's not a short book, but I read it in about 3 sittings, maybe 4. I couldn't put it down. It starts off sorta True Detective-y (but honestly more like what I feel like people wanted True Detective to be vs what it ultimately was), but it's actually more like Event Horizon meets Tenet, if JDW's Protagonist was an investigator (I don't know what he was.)
Finished Automatic Noodle and Headlights. Noodle was a chill, nice read, while Headlights was the opposite lol. Good but pacing issues about halfway through.

just finished Headlights by C.J. Leede. I don't read a lot of horror, haven't since I was a teenager, and I almost didn't give this one a chance because of that, but I am glad I did because it was a great book. I started it in the evening after supper and finished it the next night, which is really fast for me, and I wasn't even off work. I didn't love the ending, but it was well written and I think it fit the story perfectly - oddly it was the resolution to the romantic part of the story that I didn't like, but it wasn't a deal-breaker or anything.
Finished The Alloy of Law. Nice to read a Sanderson book that is short and to the point unlike what has become of stormlight lol.
after Headlights I grabbed another horror book from the library, but I only made it a handful of pages in and realized I didn't want to read any more horror. ended up snagging this instead -->
Read the first 3 dungeon crawler books. Each one is better than the last. A lot of the humor doesn’t work for me and the RPG stuff can get very repetitive but overall they are fun easy reads.

I just wrapped up The Fall of Hyperion. really struggled with the first half to the point where I put it down for a month, but holy shit the second half was straight gas, flew through the last 200 pages in about two weeks some stuff didn't quite land for me, mainly that the characters from Hyperion feel weirdly sidelined after we spent so much time learning their stories and sympathising with them lol but the last 50 pages remedied that a tad and made me cry a bunch. might need a break before I go on to the Endymions
I liked this a lot. Very fun and a quick, easy read. I'm not gonna go on to the next book right now, I have some other ones I really want to prioritize tackling, but I am absolutely going to continue this trilogy in the future. is her latest Ode To The Half-Broken?
