35% done on DCC7. Enjoying it a lot so far, but I know there's a long way to go. I have a feeling this will get brutal, some very dark moments already so far. Some of the funniest moments too though.... \ Thanks for all the chatter on other books. I've snagged several of these with my audiobook credits to get my reading log filled out.
60% of the way through Parade of Horribles. Echoing peoples thoughts on this being a wonderful piece of leftist literature, but even more than the anti-capitalist bent, the major theme of "We lose our humanity when we stop being kind" is such a strong emotional anchor amongst the horrors that Carl experiences. It's why it's become one of my favorite series ever.
only through chapter 25 but it's been an absolute blast. wish i had more time to listen recently. Dinniman just gets the human condition, even through the most absurd lens you could imagine.
I’ve sure you’ve all taken my advice and read everything by Tim Akers already, but in case you haven’t, the final novella in his Bladecaster Ephemera series comes out Monday, so the previous four are all on sale right now. Like 99¢ each I think, which is a steal. Well worth it.
I'm going to this insane sale tomorrow. Most of it is romantasy, but there's some stuff sprinkled throughout that interests me. The Raven Scholar and The Bone Raiders for $5 apiece seems like a steal. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1323128803261613 I went to the last sale and picked up a ton of good stuff for less than $30.
Aaaaaaand it was cancelled due to weather lol. I waited like 1.5 hours. Oh well, Half Price Books has a sale going all weekend
Parade of Horribles was good. Loved being back with the crew but also felt like this was the first time it hasn’t been following the uphill trajectory of every book being better. It’s tough to live up to faction wars. Still very good though the main floor was kind of a miss for the most part for me, but the Parade was incredible
been struggling a bit with Fall of Hyperion after loving the first book. the POV shift taking you out of the main action was a bit tough to get along with but it seems like it's picking up again
I read Steel Gods (which was absolutely incredible) first, because it looked a little bit shorter and like a slightly quicker read, but I'm about to crack open The Last Contract of Isako right now
I didn't realize this was still going on! I might have to snag it. There's also one going on for Robert Silverberg. He's another underrated legend of the genre—I've only read a couple short stories of his, but they were really good.
DCC 8 ruled. I think I'm still a bit lost on the primal and god stuff but I think I get what I'm supposed to at this time. The parade stuff and subsequent lore drop from the AI was so good. Some of the best stuff Dinniman has done so far.
I'm not even a hundred pages into my first time reading Fonda Lee and she's already brought me to tears once and almost done it again just now this book is also really fun so far, even though that kinda makes it sound like it isn't, but she sprinkles in these really emotional & devastating gut-punches
has anyone here read There Is No Antimemetics Division by an author going by qntm....??? I think it's more of a horror than straight sci-fi, but I'm not exactly sure to be honest
oh nice, that's good to hear - I'm gonna put in for it now with the library and it'll probably be my next book I also put in a hold for a book called Headlights by C.J. Leede, but my library system only has a couple copies and there's already a bunch of people in line
It's a great fast read. Blew through it in like two sittings haha. Oooh that book sounds interesting. will have to see if my library gets ebook copies. (still able to use my last library too on Libby which is nice lol)
Reading this in October, bought it for like 1.99 on sale. I can keep an eye out for you on Kindle if you’re looking for a deal
