Just went to my favorite used bookstore in my hometown and walked out with 11 mass market paperbacks. No idea how I'll fit them all in my suitcase
Didn’t realize the second captives war book came out. Going to pick it up tomorrow and read it before DCC comes out.
Eventually. I have a couple arca to read. The 3rd Villains book from VE Schwab and the Brandon Sanderson and Peter Orullian book coming out later this year. Then back to Malazan for a book then will be back to Realm of the Elderlings.
The thing about re-reading game of thrones for the first time in about ten years, is realising, yeah, this shit is good. Really good.
Left California with 12 new (old) books. Snagged a copy of Harrowing the Dragon by the beloved Patricia A. McKillip. Getting them all into my suitcase was a feat, I had to jam like 8 of them into my carry-on lol
also, there is a Humble Bundle for Mercedes Lackey. I haven't read any of her stuff yet, but I've got the Arrows trilogy on my shelf. https://www.humblebundle.com/books/...deslackeyvaldemarandbeyonddawbooks_bookbundle
Just finished Strength of the Few. I loved it. but man, there was SO. MUCH. PLOT. I thought there was a lot jammed into his Licanius trilogy, but I feel like this has even more. I have to admit that I stopped trying to follow / understand everything that was going on and just went along for the ride.
Just saw on reddit someone post a Uzi Jesus tattoo including the 'I am the way Mother fucker' in a spot that's kind of obvious and hard to cover it. Most people are eating it up there, but like, is that not a little much? I feel that devoid of the context of the book and what the AI is doing in its commentary on religion, that it's a little (a lot) tacky, offensive and sort of lame? I don't know, hard pass for me and not a cool 'oh hey, you're a fan, I'm a fan!' tattoo.
I feel like I've seen far more offensive tattoos but I'm also not religious, and Uzi Jesus is one of the funnier bits in the books. I get that some might find it offensive but it's literally just a character and line from a book, but I'm also not the kind to get mad about that stuff typically.
I've got a lot of tattoos, but I wouldn't tattoo a curse word on me that I'd have to cover up in certain scenarios, but then again, I wouldn't wear a t shirt with swear words on it out to a brewery where kids could be about, let alone get something on my skin I'd either have to cover up or just say fuck it, who cares who reads this. I think my problem is that the book isn't making fun of religion, we're supposed to be laughing at the AI's concoction and how brazen it's gotten, and even Carl has some positive things to say about religion to clarify that. Just slapping that on your skin for life, devoid of context... idk. If a friend was like 'hey man, this is a cool tattoo I'm thinking of getting for DCC' I'd definitely try to talk them out of it. To each their own I guess. I'm not religious, but I respect the people who are (when they don't weaponize it), and while I can laugh at it in the context of the book, just Jesus with guns and the word Motherfucker for a tattoo seems so distasteful and trashy. Whatever. I don't know the guy. Was just curious how others felt. I feel as this series explodes it's going to get a lot of fans who only read it on a surface level. Sort of like some fans of the boys not realizing it was satire and then ditching it when they realized it was political.
this fandom definitely has some edgelords who should think twice, for sure. I definitely understand where you're coming from, I've just seen people casually walking around with weird shit on their body, clothing, cars that I'm kind of desensitized and it tells me who to avoid haha.
I wouldn’t do it but it doesn’t bother me if someone would. if I get a DCC tattoo ever it would be something like this with the boxers and donut
I also don’t like the idea of that tattoo for all the reasons you stated. But I’m also religious so it’s nice to see someone who isn’t say something about it and not make me feel like a prude, haha. Because what Dinniman is doing throughout that bit with religion is actually quite smart and interesting (and funny).
I would like a DCC tattoo at some point. I have already mentioned the ones related to fantasy / scifi that I have and I just added a Suneater as well, but I also may want to wait till the series is done first.
My take on it is pretty much the same as Garrett's (though I haven't read DCC so I also lack the context haha). And for me it's not so much personally offensive—at this point in life pretty much everything I hold dear, serious or silly, has been mocked much worse, and I'm fine with that—but I would find it to be in poor taste and tacky and probably wouldn't think highly of someone who had it as a tattoo (even knowing the context). I mean, anyone can get whatever tattoos they want, say anything they want, do things I don't like: I'm not going to really do anything about it, and I'm not sure my opinion should mean much to anyone else anyway. But I wouldn't love it.
really psyched for DCC book 8 audio in a couple of weeks. i've been in a horrible reading slump this year (my new comic omnibus collecting hobby isn't helping), so I'm looking forward to having this book hopefully break me out of it.
