To anyone that’s read the series: I just read that the radio series and book series are very different. Is one canon, or no since Adams made both? Are they different universes? The changes seem to be too big to be just adaptations.
I think both are pretty much considered canon because he wrote both himself, some of the stuff that happens in the books kinda gives you a way to rationalise the radio series happening in alternate dimensions if that's your thing btw it's an incredible series and the first book is an all-timer, enjoy!
@OwainGlyndwr I started The Servant! If you see that it’s taking me awhile, it’s only because I’m reading it with my eyes and not because I don’t like it, haha. I have a really hard time doing more than 15-20 minutes of reading at a time anymore. Which is kinda wild when I’ve done fifteen hours of an audiobook in a day before.
haha I appreciate the heads up. I always feel self-conscious about my reading speed when I know the author is watching. I think reading is a skill that requires upkeep, honestly. It’s hard to make the time and have the quietude of mind sometimes. send me $2,500 and I’ll get an audiobook recorded
I find myself falling asleep when I read. It’s like everything slows down too much. I think you’re greatly overestimating my financial capital
Not fantasy but I got it from the book exchange, The Buffalo Hunter Hunter fucking ruled. If you like SGJ this is another 5/5.
So I'm reading through the Malazan prequel novel Forge of Darkness right now and came across these absolute bars: "Laws decide which forms of oppression are allowed, Lord. And because of that, those laws are servants to those in power, for whom oppression is given as a right over those who have little or no power." Gotta say, this Erikson guy knows what's he's talking about
I decided along with my re-read I'm gonna implement the Esslement books and then read the Kharkanas and Witness books
I recalibrated my reread after I read Deadhouse Gates but now plan to do everything in chronological order (in universe) so it's going to be like 4 books or something before I get to read Memories of Ice again. But let me tell you, I'm only like 4 chapters into Forge of Darkness and it's so fucking good.
Absolutely incredible. I tried reading and could not get through it because of some of the language but he breaths a whole new life into it and elevates the material. Even Brandon Sanderson was talking about how these productions made him enjoy the parts he didn't enjoy as much previously.
awesome thanks. I paid for a year of audible so got all my credits up front and was looking for something. I read the books back in high school but wanted to revisit.
Did around 160 pages of Twelve Months today and man I’m so happy to be back in this world. Glad Butcher appears to be decently far along on the next book too and we get another novella this year. Marsters is so good. His despondent version of Harry after the events of Battle Ground is chefs kiss.
Struggling a bit with The Strength of the Few. The multiple POVs aren’t helping as I’d rather stick with the setting we followed all through the first book
this is by far the biggest struggle most people have with the book. Islington is really asking the reader to trust him
The last 1/3 of the book was great. Excited to see where the story goes. I think it would be interesting to read it again, one POV at a time, to see if it flows better. Like three novellas.
Finished Assassin's Apprentice this morning. Loved it. Breezed through the audiobook ( I normally only do 30 minutes to an hour per day, but I was hooked on this one)
