I was just debating whether to come here and post this, but I usually try not to sully this beautiful thread with filth from the General Politics thread
I still think I'm gonna do a run of The Servant in MMP at some point. It honestly feels as iconic to the genre as the nice dust-jacketed hardcover to me.
I’m at the point now where I only buy a hardcover if I know I love the book. I haven’t bought MMP since Wheel of Time/Dragonlance in high school. It makes sense to me, I guess. It feels like the publishing industry needs a giant overhaul and streamlining. May not be the solution, but looks like a step I understand.
yeah, the vast majority of books that I read growing up were MMP I'm gonna have to hit up some book sales & used book shops
Ok so pumped to read The Buffalo Hunter Hunter. Stephen Graham Jones is one of my favorite authors and I have not read this one. Whoever you are knocked it out of the park
the attachment I feel to this cover --> which is an objectively terrible cover, and the emotions covers like these bring up, are so strong - these little guys were perfect for chucking in your backpack to lug around back and forth to school for weeks or months at a time, or to take to the beach where a big old hardcover would be unwieldy and impractical
I’m assuming this is from you (there wasn’t a note), and if so, thank you very much. Never heard of this but it sounds interesting. The comic strips throughout the book is nice touch.
It was from me. Glad you are stoked. You've got quite the extensive reading list and I was very happy when I found this book then cross checked to find that you hadn't read it yet! I'm going to read it myself. It sounds very interesting and sort of like what Sinners did (though I'm sure it'll be tonally way different - but the idea of weaving fantasy / horror and history together made me think of that - I know it'll be pretty bleak at times ha).
I made a dumb joke on IG and got an ARC of Ed Crocker’s next book. Anybody else in here read Lightfall yet? I thought it was really excellent. Super stoked for book two. What’s on yinz’s 2026 reading lists?
Haha love it. Of course. My wife loves Dandelion Dynasty. I haven’t read it yet. I also need to finish WOT sometime…
What I currently have planned. Wish I would've been able to finish Strength of the Few and Blindsight before the end of the year but my new 3D printer has taken over my life and I'm still in a post-Shadows upon Time reading slump. Probably need to restart SoTF and do immersive. I was doing it straight audio and was quite difficult to follow.
After my Disquiet Gods reread - Shadow Upon Time - Will of the Many Reread - Strength of The Few - The 2 books from the Holiday Exchange (Silverblood Promise / Ordinary Monsters) - Wind and Truth (trying again as I dropped it before due to reading it at the wrong time) THEN... I'm wide open. Some more cosmere? Finally dive into Malazan? I also want to read Children of time... I'm also interested in getting into Warhammer 40k... I've also got The Hexologists which I want to read as I loved Senlin Ascends... Basically, LOTS of options for me to consider, but I do know my goal is to read a little more. 18-24 total so 1.5 - 2 a month which means more short books and not all doorstoppers.
Yess, Tom King is by far my favorite comic writer, this is his sole novel. Very reminiscent of Watchmen or Miracleman. I’m due for a reread but its a favorite
I’ve got less than 50 books on my TBR of books I already own, so my goal for 2026 is to get through all of them. The Expanse is in there off the top of my head. But I’m also planning to re-read DCC before book 8. I’m planning to re-read Red Rising before Red God, whenever it’s announced.
Also, I know many of us talked about doing a Malazan thing. I joined a Malazan book club on Fable that will be reading a book a month starting in January (10 months long). A bunch of indie authors/bookstagrammers are in it and will be doing a podcast after every book. It's up to 80 people and anyone can join, you just need the app: Fable | Stories for everyone Might sound like a bit much in terms of the members/podcast but I'm looking forward to it!
This is an awesome list. I like seeing the covers all together too, I feel like that’s more exciting to look forward to. haha I feel your mentality. I’ve got my queue of my next 8 or so books, and then after that… just a huge huge huge list and I can start wherever. This is crazy talk. How did you possibly manage thst
I think a lot of books look bad, haha. But also, it's not on my TBR unless I own it already/know I'll own it (ie, Red God, DCC8). No need to carry extra weight and expectations.
I'm a visual guy so it feels less... overwhelming? haha. We will see if I stick to this list. The new releases will for sure be happening but everything else is a relative crap shoot.
besides DCC 8 what will be the 'big' releases of 26? I was excited for several this year but am unaware of what's coming next year. Doors of stone? winds of winter? Thorn of Emberlain? Jk on all these though I still want them at some point.
