@Garrett sorry if I'm coming across judgmental or whatever about your feelings on the series. Everything you've said is totally valid and just speaks to how the series can hit different for different people. So much happens and each book is like multiple books in one so I feel like there truly is something for everyone if you look for it. At the very least Christopher is a fantastic writer. I realize I can get overly "passionate" about stuff I really like and I could convey that better without pooping on other's opinions.
you’re fine. I’m more than used to having the contrarian opinion on massively popular fantasy and scifi series, haha.
yeah they are definitely out of reach for me, but the ones that I have seen have been absolutely gorgeous
$185 seems reasonable for that edition, just not sure I want to wait for the 15-20 years it'll take to do the whole set lol. I know he said they may try and do 2 a year, but with his other books, I just don't see how that's possible
just got home from work and had an excellent surprise waiting for me on my porch --> my person really went above and beyond - thank you very much!!!
I don't think any of the prices are unreasonable for that level of craftsmanship and for how awesome they look - they're just way more money than I can spend on stuff like that these days
absolutely. definitely not suggesting otherwise haha. Also, that price will most definitely go up each book depending on how long they take. it'll be quite a bit more than $2600 over a decade or more.
not Broken Binding (I don't think), but there was a special edition Lord of the Rings that came out a while ago that I actually crunched the numbers for to see if I could somehow swing, even though I knew from the get go that it was a lost cause haha
the leatherbound ones they made that have slipcases? they are really nice. I just got the regular hardcover version of them. much better on the wallet and still good quality.
yup I had beautiful leather-bound hardcover editions of The Hobbit & LOTR that my parents got me for Christmas in 1993 that I still had up until 5 years ago - I had a few different paperback versions for kicking around that I actually read, but those versions stayed up on the shelf unless I wanted to (carefully!) look at the amazing map
@Brother Beck Just received my package. Thank you! - The Silverblood Promise - This was on my radar from a fantasy fan on Insta that I follow who has extremely similar taste and I've learned to trust, and I love the comparisons to Scott Lynch. - Ordinary Monsters - This one is new to me but I'm equally excited to check it out. I will get to probably The Silverblood Promise first after I finish Suneater and Strength of the Few. I love that there's just 2 out of each as well. I'm trying to get into more series on the lower floors!
I hope you enjoy! I definitely wanted to get you something off your list, but then when I read what your interests were I had to throw that extra one in because I think it will be right up your alley, and it's one of my absolute favorites in modern years and one that I don't think gets nearly enough love
Humble Book Bundle: Adrian Tchaikovsky's Epic Fantasy by Macmillan (pay what you want and help charity) Pretty excellent bundle here, I know several of you really like Adrian Tchaikovsky (on my TBR for years), so $18 for Shadows of the Apt, Echoes of the Fall, and Guns of the Dawn is great.
Or you could spend HALF THAT and get the next Garden Knight novella on NYE. (I'm pivoting to really hostile marketing for my books, we'll see if that works.)
At first I couldn’t remember if I read that one and then realized I read it over a year and a half ago and is time even real?
