I remember the first time Uzi Jesus appeared, my friend texted me (she was ahead of me in the book upon release) and she was like, “I’m very worried you’re gonna be upset about something.” My faith is very important to me, but also, I’m not fragile about it, haha. So when it was *that* funny, I was cackling. But also, it encapsulates just how well Dinniman can portray how horrible the game runners are at understanding earth, the cultures, and peoples of it. All throughout the dungeon levels there are just insane bastardizations of all sorts of earth cultural touchstones. Exactly what you would expect from people who only know us by our art, etc. One of those surprisingly deep things I love about the series that’s on the surface about a barefoot dude in his boxers and his cat. /coffeethoughts
The mechanic on that floor too was fantastic. The fact that he apparently just kind of wings these books is incredible.
Wholly disagree haha. I’ve seen that sentiment and I truly don’t understand it but to each their own. Sure I would’ve liked some things to happen that were telegraphed but I felt it was fitting.
not fantasy/sci-fi or a series, but this book has the most unsatisfying ending that I have ever read:
A buddy and I have been texting back and forth about it for an hour since I finished, haha. He finished a week ahead of me. I just really don’t like when any story does the “and the real villain all along was actually!” and doesn’t resolve that story line.
if you’re referring to the chantry, that was basically a known thing the whole series. Also Hadrian wasnt chosen to deal with the existential human threat. He was very clearly chosen for the fight with miudinar (I’m terrible with name spellings) and he finished that one.
I'm with tvck on this one loved the ending. I kinda felt the same way until I deduced that Selene is with Hadrian on Colchis.
Finished King Sorrow. Very underwhelmed. Need way more dragon in my opinion now I don’t know if I wanted to pick up Empire of Silence or The Will Of The Many next
Awesome I’m glad you got them. I tried to make an educated guess based on your read shelf. Sun Eater is my favorite sci fi series currently and I think the first 2 books will give you an idea if you’ll like the rest of the series. Justice of Kings is the start of one of my favorite fantasy trilogies in recent years.
Only five chapters into The Will of the Many and it’s so good. But I can see the easy comparisons to Name of the Wind
DCC8 is officially May 12, 2026. Red God seems to be slipping to 2027 based on what Pierce said at DSN. I might actually get through my tbr next year if new releases don’t encourage me to re-read as much.
Brother Beck speaks the truth. Also, the sequel series' book 2 is coming out in February and I think Grave Empire is better than anything in the Empire of the Wolf trilogy. So excited. One of the most exciting newer authors in SF/Fantasy right now.
