I bought a used box set on eBay of the same edition paperback Hobbit & LOTR that I read as a kid, but The Hobbit got left lying around and ended up chewed up by one of the dogs

I was somewhat struggling with dcc book 7, but im at the midway point, chapter 38, and just wow... i am hooked at this 5 chapter run or so, just insane and im annoyed my long work drive just ended and i have to wait to continue. 4 more car hours tomorrow though...

    Regarding bookshelves:
I have the whole WOT in the paperbacks and they fit across one shelf perfectly except the prequel!! So annoying that one book has to go to the next shelf.

My favorite and most prized are these Robin Hobb anniversary editions (from the UK). Gorgeous / well constructed pieces.

still think Butcher's Masquerade is the best/my favorite but DCC 7 had some awesome stuff. Don't really know how Dinniman does it. Excited for book 8. Thank goodness we get audio on release day. I had to wait like 6 months for book 7 audio after the book released.

I finished the three books I was reading around the same time and hit a rare lull where I wasn't reading anything. I didn't like it.

Gonna try a shorter indie book to hold me over until The Strength of the Few comes out in a few weeks

  8. Finished the DCC books and I think inevitable ruin is my least favorite but I still enjoyed it.

    reading project Hail Mary now

are we doing the book exchange this year

We should absolutely be doing the book exchange this year, good call. About that time to start thinking about it.

Sound off if you're participating. If I don't hear from you over the next few days I'll hound you, then make assignations.

Start thinking about if you want to put together a "I already have these books don't buy me them" list or anything haha. We generally do pretty good though.

  10. I’m in and will share my goodreads that I’ve done pretty well adding to. Just need to make a list of books I own but haven’t read.

I loved Dungeon Crawler Carl books one and two, but I’m struggling with three. The train systems are so convoluted and I’m not getting the descriptions and how it all works. I know the intro by the author says not to get too caught up in the technicalities, but a lot of the book is understanding stops, stations, etc. Maybe it’s just me haha.

  14. There’s a simplistic map later in the book but dont get caught up in how convoluted it is

I still think book 3 is my least favorite overall but yeah, I think I've learned to trust Dinniman at this point, even when something is super weird and/or convoluted.

Putting out another general call for the gift exchange before I start tagging and hounding individuals.

I wonder if I could get a gift exchange going in the boardgame thread for like $10-15 games...

Fifth Season is an absolutely incredible book

I've heard it's told in second person point of view. I'm not sure I've ever read a book that utilizes that viewpoint

The Broken Earth trilogy is on my list to revisit eventually because that may be the perfect example of the hype not matching the books for me. Her NYC duology was pretty intriguing, though.

But I’ve come to discover that I think most Hugo winners just aren’t that great. A problem I also have with the Pulitzer. So I know my opinion often goes against critical praise and that’s ok.
