I’ve had a package delivered to my parents (completely forgot to change address) which is fine but I won’t be home until the 21st. Either that or it’s another book I’ve ordered!
@theagentcoma has brought me here. I will eventually read the stormlight archive but want to dive into some other fantasy series first. On my list of ideas are: Bloodsworn Saga - John Gwynne The First Law series - Joe Abercrombie
If you want any series recs: Memory Sorrow & Thorn - Tad Williams (if you like this, there's a 4 book sequel series called Last King of Osten Ard) Empire of the Wolf - Richard Swan Sun Eater - Christopher Ruocchio (basically fantasy in sci-fi clothing)? Dresden Files - Jim Butcher
First law is a very love it or hate series but it has a universally loved audiobook, top tier. But without spoilers, its a very controversial arc through the books. I loved it, my wife hated it, and distrusted my book recs for a while.
Welcome dude! Those are great picks. Let us know if you want more, especially as you get to know what kind of subgenres and stories you like most. like cozy-spooky-heroic-adventure stories with loveable dogs, to pick one option at random
Whoa, @Helloelloallo thank you! I’ve read Y: The Last Man, so excited to see how Saga goes! The other book (I’m not near them at the moment) looks pretty promising, too!
Finished this today. I generally agree with you, though I think I probably enjoyed it slightly more than you—a few more moments that moved me or elevated it from hack & slash fun, for example. It was definitely a solid trilogy throughout with a consistent pace and voice, and I really enjoyed my time with all the characters and will be back for more Gwynne soon. during the middle third I was wishing for more innovative elements or surprises, like some kind of quest or mystical talisman or something, so that it didn't just feel like an extended siege; but then the final third with Snaka's heart and all the double- and triple-crossing was really great, and I like how everything wrapped up not exactly happy but at least in some kind of peace. Also I love that the world feels bigger than the story—all these gods and types of tainted and monsters that we only get references to but don't learn all the details about it. Great stuff.
Big thank you to my book exchange partner. Never heard of these and they look great. My wife saw and said she wants to read them too lol. Will dig in after I finish words of radiance.
Bummed I missed it! I was going to do it but am late to the party! Glad you all had some good books and recommendations!
Oh no! If this group DNF, I’d have a hard time. I’m impressed with the reading speed of this thread given some are already through WaT!
