It’s genuinely well-deserved. I’m not saying this in a negative way but I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. Not because of anything except the shortness and I went in blind but it was a beautifully written story that really resonated and I’m thankful for you writing it!
Nah I get it for sure. It's a short little story in an unknown world by an unknown writer who's self-publishing. It's a miracle I can get anyone to read it, family included, haha. The kind words are wonderful to hear. Thank you so much.
I now need more info on book one from either you or @OwainGlyndwr now preferably. Please and thank you.
Frankly, the fact that you read and liked it were instrumental in pushing me to get it out, so feel all the pride you want haha. Also your edits and suggestions have been great, no need to downplay that. You're named in the acknowledgments btw, not sure you would have known that.
Yeah not sure how much I should say, but even after really loving Leafdust I was super blown away. Like there's so much fucking lore and it's so good, I know @OwainGlyndwr likes to think of them as cozy and the Leafdust certainly is, but I'd add that Tangleweed is like a "Thinking-persons-cozy." It demands your attention in the best way, not that you will be lost or anything, but the more you put into understanding the world I think the higher the rewards. I told him it would fit perfectly in Tor's catalogue. Does not feel like a first book. Ya'll are gonna love it. Oh and more characters, I can probably at least say that. The (probably) second lead(? I'm trying to be vague) is dope as hell.
I’m planning to buy it once I get on the other side of some expenses, so I would’ve seen it eventually. :)
send me 1.5 and 2, btw. my other author friend just sent me her latest manuscript a few weeks back so I’m currently in a free period for beta/line edits now that I’m done with hers
I'm trying to get my wife to read it. She's been reading a lot lately, but she tends to read very different types of books than me. I definitely think she would like this though.
Beyond that excellent pitch: - Ancient magical artifacts causing havoc - A blight out of control - Treachery! - Knights! - More Barrow! - More characters in general, and adventures beyond Haverdell - Derry using plants to destroy other plants…and people…and plant-monsters
Oh sweet! Will do dude. Eventually I want to be better ahead of the process such that I can draft one and do a personal revision before the beta. Maybe for 2.5 and 3. But yeah I’ll send 1.5 and 2 over. “A terrifying eco horror story!” - Mr. Fern Brambles
Did you ever get a map @OwainGlyndwr? I just remembered my comment that was like “now where is this bridge and his boat dock?!”
I have had to swear a blood oath that nothing will happen to him lol. Clearly a crowd favorite. Haha that comment was super useful and affected some geographical changes to clarify things. I’m working on a map! @Vivatoto mentioned needing one as well, and I agree. Going with Inkarnate right now, because the program is easy enough to use, the maps look cool, and I can affordably license them for commercial use. I don’t know if I’ll have it done in time for Tangleweed in print, I’m hoping to, but I’ll at least host it online.
