My sister in law saw this last night as an early screening that wasn't totally finished with the SFX.

Early impressions from her were that there's good reason it's been delayed four times.

To be fair, early screenings are absolutely a thing and on the spoiler reddit it's already being reported an early screening of this happened.

I mean, the release date has been moved around. But they only started shooting last year, right? Not sure if anything has moved since then for it.

 

Her big complaint was that a lot of the dialogue and jokes fell flat, but that's probably a result of it having gone through multiple directors and writers at this point. Between both the writer and actor strike, it's changed hands a few times. Originally supposed to be out in November 2024, then February 2025, then May 2025, and now July 2025. I think it swapped places with Thunderbolts at some point.

‘THE FANTASTIC FOUR: FIRST STEPS’ – Test Screening Reactions:

Positives:

- Ralph Ineson’s Galactus is described as “TERRIFYING” and the best part of the movie.
- Galactus' design looks like he was ripped straight from the comics.
- The film’s plot feels very “Lovecraftian” with a “cosmic horror angle” that gives it “a lot of personality.”

Negatives:

- Viewers felt the characters lacked development.
- Reed Richards’s powers were underwhelming, and The Thing was barely used.

 

Tbf, some of those delays were due to the Writers Guild strike

 

so funny that the mcu has flipped from traditionally having weak villains but developed leads people got attached to into the villains being the main draw but not lasting often longer than one movie

 

Oh totally, first the writers strike followed by the actor strike. I have high hopes for this, but going in with tempered expectations because I won’t be able to not picture Silver Surfer with an accent saying she doesn’t know shit about fuck.

The trailer looks fun as hell.
