I’ll probably end up watching a few episodes this weekend. My wife and I have an extensive list of movies to watch this season and we’ve been unproductive about checking things off the list the last couple nights.

The ultra slow zoom in close up really loses its effect when it’s used seven times an episode

Its very interesting so far to say the least (I'm half way through). Tone has been all over the place and its kind of a slow burn since it has taken like the first 3 episodes to set up the major plotline of the show but theres wild shit going on in each ep that hold my intrigue for sure.

I'm 5 episodes in and it's gonna come out as my least favourite of the Netflix Flanagans by far. feels like a good place to end that run honestly because it's definitely run its course

biggest problem I have with this is the characters. Flanagan is so good at making sympathetic characters absolutely sing with writing and casting, but everyone in this show is absolutely fucking awful and the writing just keeps bombarding you with how selfish and bohemian they all are every line. it's like he made a show where every character was as hateable as Bev and it's just exhausting to watch. some really, really clunky 'older people writing like zoomers' dialogue too which gives us an actor of T'Nia's calibre saying stuff is cringe, nobody wins in that scenario

all that said it's Flanagan so it's still baseline good, just way below his ceiling. some appropriately nasty deaths even though the formula really starts to wear thin as it goes on - episode 5 was easily the best so far in that department. Greenwood and Lumbly are absolutely amazing and should pick up awards for this. Greenwood especially makes a three course meal out of a terribly written monologue about lemons, y'all better appreciate the Midnight Mass monos more after that one lol

I actually disagree with this! By the time they all get killed off, I hated everyone so much that it was particularly satisfying. If I didn’t know everyone was gonna die I absolutely would’ve been in the same boat as you.

Midnight Club is the only one of the series I didn’t like. This one I definitely like the least of the other 3 but I still liked it a hell of a lot.

I really enjoyed the parallel of “fuck the next generation, this works for me” that came with the deal. I guess you could argue they thought they’d be giving the future kids a good life, but it really struck me that Roderick made the agreement with two kids already and then didn’t stop reproducing.

Given the conversations about sex in TV and film lately, it was such a lovely surprise to see this show embrace it so much, even when it was just alluding to it. I also appreciated how many characters were sexually fluid.

I knew Camille would be one of the first to go given her line of work, but I’m always gonna want more Kate Siegel. I thought Rahul Kohli was great as well. Flanagan is so fucking good with casting.

I get where you're coming from it just doesn't work for me at all. I think it was a weird choice to format the show the way it was, where we see who dies in the opening few minutes and then the format/focus of the episodes makes it insanely obvious who's gonna die when. the only suspense comes from how each kid is gonna die but even that gets spoiled every episode with a jumpscare in the Lumbly/Greenwood scenes for some reason! I just didn't feel any suspense watching this on par with the deaths in any of his other shows

Rahul Kohli of course is incredible always but the way they wrote Leo is just so beneath him, imo lol. his performance in Bly Manor is still absolutely unmatched to me
