I agree with the Breakfast Everyday review of this: the main plot is a bit messy and forgettable, but that doesn't seem important because it feels like the movie is very much aware that you're not really here for the plot, you're here for awesome stunts and charming Gosling/Blunt banter, and in that it delivers very hard. There is also a few jokes and lines in this that are very clearly winks to film twitter/letterboxd guys.
Thought this was a lot of fun and not much else - which is all you really need. I don’t think Leitch is as sharp of a comedic director as Lord/Miller or the “Game Night” folks, but he’s smart enough to leave it to the cast to sell the jokes and knows how to film some impressive stunts.
I hope you guys don't mind like 8 needledrops of different covers of the same song playing throughout the movie. At least two of the covers were legit very good though, the Yungblud one kinda rules.
Good for him, awful for us. His darker roles are easily his best, but I could understand that taking a toll on him and his family.
This was fun. Could have been trimmed down 10 or so minutes but everyone was having a blast. ATJ stole every scene he was in.
Also Hannah Waddingham was great. She knew exactly what this role was supposed to be and went for it lol. She was just full on camp by the end.
I loved how campy and fun this is. It truly is a great love letter to stunt work in film. Pretty much touched on every major film stunt style except horse riding. Blunt is damn near perfect in this role. Gosling was ripped, and then ATJ had negative body fat. Not a good day to have your cheat meal from the gym, haha.
Felt it dragged at a couple of parts, but definitely had a lot of fun. I just love Gosling so much and the chemistry with Blunt was a delight.
I wish Stephanie Hsu was in this more. The part she was in was probably my favorite stunt sequence of the movie.
I loved this so, so much. Ryan Gosling continues to be one of my favourite people to watch, he nails everything he does. The Taylor Swift scene was a highlight.
