Reactions out of SXSW are pretty positive from what I’ve seen so far. Not that festival reactions really amount to much
the trailers had my expectations at “probably bad but maybe still fun” so I’m thrilled at these reactions. Crazy how Gosling completely vanished for like 4 years and now it looks like he’s gonna be the king of movie stars. (Just how bad are the Russo bros that they couldn’t make Gray Man anywhere close to good…)
because it's sxsw i'm still not gonna take it to the bank, but it's worth pointing out that a lot of the praise is coming from people who were not expecting to like this at all. i certainly didn't picture this being an improvement over bullet train
I've hated every single solo Leitch movie but these reactions got me excited. Maybe he finally made a good movie with the right material
it just hit me that this movie is the main reason why ryan and emily were presenting together at the oscars last sunday
And why they did a tribute to stunt performers while the Oscars were still like “Oh stunt people want an award now too? Lol.”
not as great as the sxsw raves suggested but it’s solid enough. could’ve been tighter to be fair. gosling is definitely very good. can totally see complaints for some aspects (music cues, in particular). there’s even a meta joke about how stunts don’t get oscar noms. nothing mindblowing overall (none of leitch’s films are transcendent) but it’s gonna be a good start to the summer movie season
I just saw this. Had a blast watching this. An absolute popcorn flick that has no pretensions about being anything else. Genuine love and passion for the action genre and the stunt profession seeps out of every pore of this. A little bit Hong Kong era Jackie Chan, a little bit Shane Black, A little bit of Edgar Wright ( There was a least two fight scenes in this that felt straight outta Scott Pilgrim). Also Gosling and Blunt's chemistry is incredible.
