Gerald's Game is pretty mean I don't love Flanagan the way other people do but he does seem tailor-made for this imo, I'd be interested
I’d argue that everything so far Flanagan has made, has an element of meanness to it. At least a section/segment of something so dark and horrific. With most ending on a ~mostly~ optimistic note. He’s tailor made for this.
I think his work on Midnight Mass is a good precursor to themes he could work with for a new installment
If you're looking for a good Exorcist movie? No. There's like half of a decent possession movie here, but the midsection is silly at best and boring at worst.
I love Flanagan more than anyone, that's my boy but if he did have that mean streak it's faded with time imo. like the endings of Absentia and Oculus definitely go hard but nowadays when he kills any character it's part of an intricately written beautiful character arc payoff lmao I love that about his stuff but I think like Evil Dead an Exorcist film should go for the jugular every time, idk if he's got that dog in him
Did not care for Gerald’s Game at all, but everything else has been great; I have faith in him and can’t wait for this. Also, I think I enjoyed Believer more than most, but this is welcomed.
Haven’t seen it in 7 years, I’ll have to give it a rewatch; it can always be a time and place thing so I like to do rewatches. For example, using Flanagan again, I was whatever on Doctor Sleep the first time but ended up loving it a lot the second.
Yeah, I'm still negative on Doctor Sleep personally but I agree with you and appreciate your willingness to revisit things!
