So what are the potential holdups on Irish reunification? I know very little about the subject. I presume it would have to have both support from Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, and while there might be increased support from Northern Ireland, does most of the Republic of Ireland already support it or would work have to be done there too?

A similar place to where it is now I would imagine. It should also be noted that it wasn't just English people voting in this referendum, it was the whole of the 'United' Kingdom.
Both sides should be ashamed of themselves for their tactics and behaviour, but Vote Leave should be far more. I believe there should be a second referendum due to the absolute likes and egotism of Johnson, Farage and others for Vote Leave.

Up to a (small) point it's understandable, considering that the Leave campaign was essentially predicated on a couple of blatant lies, and that with the way votes are usually counted here it is actually true in a sense that a lot of them effectively don't count, so people probably are used to only having a protest vote at best.

It'll be on the verge of becoming a smaller place then it is now. Scotland leaving is an inevitability.

Absolutely agree though, neither side put up a good campaign. Both based on scaring the public with obvious lies.

Though it seems a bit pointless, 2.1 million people have signed a petition for a second referendum.

Ive been reflecting quite a bit and although I'm angry at the public for letting them, the leave campaign has flat out lied to get votes. Also farage was not part of the campaign and is not in any position of power to do anything with this result and yet his frigging face and bullshit is everywhere.

My biggest struggle is that I like to see both sides of any arguement but I can't see any tangible benefit to leaving. I'm happy to take a gamble if there is the potential for great reward but what is the reward for leaving? Anyone? I hear statements like I voted leave to make a better Britain for my children and grandchildren. Wtf? I don't get what was so wrong with Britain that we needed to plunge ourselves headlong into the unknown.

I'm fed up of being told that "brexiters" all cast a logical, well-informed vote and that deserves to be respected. it's like, No? No I don't at all - I HAVE to accept the result, I don't have to accept your shitty reasons for voting the way you did, and I certainly don't have to sit here quietly while people gloat about a decision that I've researched enough to know is a wrong one. Especially if you are going to post lies on social media that can be de-bunked by a simple google search.

My anger will not subside for a while yet!!! :redanger:

As a British citizen who has spent the majority of the past year working in Paris, Netherlands, and currently in Italy- this is absolutely heartbreaking. The opportunities I've been given to work so freely and easily in mainland Europe has all been thanks to us being part of the EU, and I'm furious at the prospect that this could be taken away from me, and so many others. It's bullshit how easily misinformed and brainwashed so many people in Britain have been by our corrupt media.

So pissed off we have voted to leave and now the Tories are saying there is no rush to leave creating months of uncertainty about when Article 50 will be enacted all so they can choose a new leader, fuck this shit and now Leave campaigners are also trying to cover their own arses. Farage has finally decided the £350m claim about that money being spent on the NHS was a "mistake" and has also said a recession is likely but not as a result of Brexit.

Add to that the fact that currently the two major parties are being lead by no one in particular.

I read about this idea on Reddit, It sounded interesting but also definitely in fantasyland a bit, and i wanted to know what the Scottish and Irish people in here thought.

The idea of a Celtic Union or United Celtic Republic, a reunified Ireland in union with a independent Scotland to form a new country. The concept being that a reunified Ireland would appeal to the northern Irish Republicans, and that a union with Scotland would appeal to some of the northern Irish Loyalists many of whom have Scottish roots, and that Ireland and Scotland merging economies would ease the strain of Republic of Ireland taking on the North, and it would put a newly independent Scotland on a better economic footing stepping out of the UK.

It's a bit of craic but there is no chance in hell it happens. It would be far too difficult politically to do that, it would essentially still be three independent countries.

Northern Ireland won't reunify with us for a number of reasons. The biggest one being they're fucking expensive. 10b deficit that we can't prop up. Even in a Union with Scotland it would be incredibly difficult.

That may be the norm for some time now, I fear. At least until someone takes control of the country and explicitly states that everyone, from Europe and beyond is welcome in this country.

Which is exactly what standing up against the Brexit is, since it as a horrible idea brought forth by power hungry conservatives and supported by people over 50 that despise pluralism and do not care about what the young think. There is absolutely no noble reason to support the Brexit, no matter how much people try to spin it.

  25. The worst part of the politics behind this is that the EU blows and there could've been a genuine left wing movement against it but labor did nothing and no one else bothered
