this was my first chloe zhao flick, so maybe the jarring editing is her style and just not for me, but I found the time jumps weird and the pacing off and boy oh boy is that a bad, bad ending. so abrupt and unsatisfying. also, I saw this like a week ago and I still keep coming back to the scene where sprite stabs sersi - uh, why does that matter? aren't they androids? I thought kro was able to kill them because he like sucks out their little eternal juices, but when sprite stabs sersi they act like it's a really big deal, but then sersi turns the knife to water and she's all good sooooooo wut? lol the scene just baffled me and the fact that *that's* the part of the film that stuck with me the most is kind of why it felt like a failure overall to me. don't really care where the characters go from here either cause they were all kind of lifeless lol
I figured it was studio meddling or whatnot cause, like I said I have no reference for her other work, but the way people refer to her previous projects had me expecting better than what was presented.
Ah, well then Craig Wood and Dylan Tichenor did a shit editing job, cause boy oh boy were those time jumps jarring and that ending bad. Pacing was fine for a long movie with a dull plot tho.
That's a bummer. Recommend checking out The Rider if you're curious what a great Chloé Zhao film looks like.
Dylan Tichenor is one of the best in the business. Edited Phantom Thread, Zero Dark Thirty, the Town, Brokeback Mountain, There Will Be Blood, and The Royal Tenenbaums
Then it seems like there was much more studio interference than the creators have been admitting cause this was a pretty middling, dull movie from a bunch of people who apparently do great work otherwise /shrug
Probably a script interference. Both Zhao and Feige have been open about how much creative control Zhao had. The script just has too much going on due to the amount of characters. The concept is fit for TV, not a feature-length film.
The source is from someone who usually does exclusives so there is some credibility here. If not a flashback, I’m sure it will be a new creation using the earlier Gilgamesh’s memories. No idea what project his role will be for. https://www.allkpop.com/article/202...ummer-to-film-new-marvel-project-as-gilgamesh
Just watched this and thought it was visually gorgeous and my fiance and I really enjoyed it. It wasn't perfect and was definitely too long, but I don't quite understand all the hate it has gotten
This is probably on the level of the first Thor for me. Enjoyed it while watching, but can’t see myself returning to it.
I’d never seen a single Marvel movie until a few weeks ago, and I’m going through them all in order now, and this is pretty easily my least favorite so far. Just find it tremendously boring
It’s pretty low for me, too. Though I haven’t done a ranking since Endgame. But I’d still put Thor: The Dark World below this for sure.
I strongly disliked that one too, but I’ve also forgotten everything about it in the last couple of weeks lol
My personal top 5 so far would probably be: Black Panther Homecoming Endgame Ragnarok Infinity War I’ve got No Way Home, Multiverse, and Love and Thunder left to go until I’m all caught up.
I didn’t love the first or third one, they were fine. Second one was probably my favorite. I do like the character though haha
