I shouldn't laugh, but I love that you somehow managed to hit mute while performing a suplex on yourself.
This isn’t about a situation that happened to me, but one I witnessed. In high school I was friends with this girl who started dating some guy. He was an amateur rapper who definitely also looked liked Eminem ca. D12 World. At some point early into their relatively short-lived relationship he approached me at the bus stop because he knew me and her (her and I?) were tight. He gave me a letter to give to her the next day. It was just a folded piece of paper so obviously I had to read it once he left. He wrote her some rhymes. The only line I remember - I will never forget it - was "this is ghetto romance, not gay romance, but ghetto romance". In his partial defence, we did all live in what you might describe as ghetto, but still Also, she ironically started dating girls a few years later. To this day I kick myself for not taking a picture of the letter before giving it to her. I can't believe I did not think to do so.
On the topic of passing notes, I remember in sixth grade (so for me that would have been 2000, yikes) passing notes was huge in school and that’s also how everyone got asked “out” with the “so you wanna go out with me? Check box yes or box no”. And one day the girl I was crushing on big time gave me such a note! I was on top of the moon. Ran to my locker, checked yes, and dropped it in her locker. a few days pass and we never talk, never make eye contact, nothing. I’m very puzzled. Then I worry I dropped it in the wrong locker! Nope, I finally ask her what’s going on and she says, “yeah, I changed my mind so I erased your Yes checkmark and put it in the No box”. Brutal. ever since then I only use pens.
it definitely is lol. And it’s also so funny to me that she couldn’t just throw the note away or say anything to me like “whoops never mind, changed my mind!” But that she had to erase the yes and put the no as if it would be evidence or a binding contract if she left it as is lol
i have to give an impromptu speech in front of about 200 people in a little under 3 hours so i may be back with a post
I was driving to work in like 2011 and butt-dialed a girl that I was formerly very interested in, but hadn't spoken to in a couple of years. I left her a 3 minute long voicemail of myself singing along to "Deuces" on the radio in the manner that people only do when they're absolutely certain no one can hear them. Checked my phone a couple of hours into my shift a had a text from her that read something like, "Deuces, huh?"
Idk if this belongs here but I had a flight student come in today for their first lesson who let me use their iPad to bookmark a reference site, and when I went to safari, they had Pornhub up on an...interesting kink video. I didn’t care at all, I just felt for them because that probably wasn’t the way that they wanted to start off the instructor/student relationship. I tried to just ignore it and continue on to the lesson, but I’m sure that was in the back of their mind the entire time
Lol that poor person. At least you did the right thing, ignored it, and didn’t judge them for it. That student will someday have an eternal cringe story to share and at least they’ll be able to say “my instructor was cool about it and didn’t say anything.” Good on you!
This wasn't witnessed by others so I was the only one who cringed thankfully, but the other day I had a lot of bottom layers including a skirt with a built in slip and spanx and tights and there were so many layers involved I forgot to pull down my underwear as well when I went to go to the restroom Thankfully I was at home and could change but I'm still giving myself a big wtf there
It was my dream to be a pilot pretty much all through middle and high school, but I bailed on it due to the costs. Still think about it sometimes and still love aviation! That's super cool.
I know some people that became pilots and somehow they all became like consultants within a few years
I did go to school for it. I don’t believe I have talked to anybody here about it yet! I went to ATP Flight Training, it was more expensive, but they take four years of training and condense it into 9 months. That’s what they are pretty much known for. Normally it would have cost about $90k, but I had to take out money for rent, so it ended up being $125k after checkride fees and living expenses. So for me (at 26 when I started), the extra cost was offset by the time saved, plus the planes were niiice. If it is something you are interested in even as a hobby at this point, generally it takes 40-70 flight hours to pass the private pilot checkride. At about $200 (maybe less) per flight, that’s 8-14k. If it is something you are still interested in as a career and time is no factor, I would HIGHLY recommend going to a smaller school, non-ATP school for your private training, then ATP for Instrument/Commercial/Multi-Engine/Flight Insructor. You will save probably $20k on your private doing that, compared to doing the zero time-CFI program I did. I’m currently working for one of those smaller schools near Pensacola, Florida Edit: I should mention I took out a loan for the whole thing personally
Yeah the cost tends to stop people after their private pilot. I was working at a grocery store for like six years before so I was willing to do anything but join the military to get out lol
Oh, sure I know ATP. I have about 100 hours and my PPL. I went to ERAU in AZ. I was actually recruited to go there because of my expertise in working with Microsoft Flight Simulator. I struggled with my mental health there and ended up leaving. But I love flying. Part of me always wonders "what if". I think that's great that you're doing that. I hope to finish my instrument one day and maybe get my multi. I'd like to own a plane when I'm older and fly around the country, but that's totally just a dream at this point lol. Good luck to you! I know that the industry is tough, but when things get better with COVID, there's a high-demand for pilots. That grind for 2-3k hours always seemed so daunting haha, but I imagine you rack up time pretty quickly as a CFI.
