I’m posting Zac’s thread here cause I haven’t gotten around to some of these genre classics yet. Good stuff in the replies…
For me personally it's: The North End / We're All Better Than This (too hard to choose - Joie is my favorite band from this entire era) Home, Like Noplace Is There What It Takes To Move Forward or maybe a compilation of the best split EP tracks Whenever If Ever (but really primarily "Picture of a Tree That Doesn't Look Okay") Some Kind of Cadwallader is obviously deserving for how influential it was but I didn't get into it until years later.
What’s your favorite Casket Lottery album? they’re coming to a venue I like in a few months, so I checked out their 2020 album and I’m really liking it.
Moving Mountains, Choose Bronze, Survival is for Cowards in that order, but all three of those are essential
It's a great album and on my personal top 10 of the year. If you're interesting in finding more of that sound I recommend checking out the other Longinus Recordings artists: https://rateyourmusic.com/feature/sonemic-interview-longinus-recordings/ starting with the Parannoul album which was my 2021 AOTY.
I can’t stop listening to the newest from Brakence. snagged a ticket for the show in a week with Jane Remover.
Some great albums shouted out here. Particularly happy to see a GAS record on here haha- that was unexpected. I'll have to check out the others. Thanks for this!
Don’t know how I missed this Combat record earlier this year. Extremely my shit. RIYL Joyce manor self titled with like, a little bit of early MoBo/front bottoms.
Here's a couple of albums from this year on my top ten that haven't been posted that I think people might appreciate: The first is Diels-Alder which is midwest emo from China. RIYL Chinese Football. The second is a Missouri band called TRSH, which is a mixture of Tiny Moving Parts / Front Bottoms style emo with teenage lyrics and bad singing, but my favorite sing-alongs of the year.
