debut album from Runner incoming Runnner - Like Dying Stars, We're Reaching Out (February 17, 2023) • forum.chorus.fm
I’ve felt pretty meh on all new music I’ve heard since July. That camp trash record didn’t live up to the hype of the singles and I’ve been in a rut for what to listen to since then.
Skullcrusher, Plains (Waxahatchee and Jess Williamson), and Wild Pink all have albums dropping tonight!
Rat Tally still on repeat, Raffaella for fun pop music, Julia by Hollie Col has been one of my favorite songs of the year on a very solid EP, new albums from Wombo and Quentin Brock and Keep for Cheap are all really good, the Blondshell singles with Sepsis in particular, new Nnamdi, new Pool Kids. Great year for new music.
Other good albums from this year (some are more indie but I feel like this thread toes the line between emo and indie): Bellows - Next of Kin Deer Scout - Woodpecker Florist - Florist TOLEDO - How It Ends Bread Pilot - New To You Sadurn- Radiator Living Hour - Someday Is Today VIAL - Loudmouth 2nd Grade - Easy Listening Well Wisher - That Weight The Beths - Expert in a Dying Field Stella Donnelly - Flood Julia Jacklin - Pre Pleasure Mamalarky - Pocket Fantasy Why Bonnie - 90 In November Nectar - No Shadow
well goddamn if this LP wasn’t made exactly for me. Icing on the cake is Alex from Spoon was involved in the recording sessions. THANK YOU
Also sorry for the triple post but it got me thinking what emo bands are left to reunite, or do another reunion tour because it has been too long? Feel free to add on to this list if I missed any (I only included acts broken up for more than 5 years): - Fugazi - Rites of Spring - The Promise Ring - Indian Summer - Christie Front Drive - Penfold - Boys Life - I Hate Myself - Rainer Maria - JEJUNE - Jets To Brazil - The Van Pelt - Knapsack - Brandtson - Drive Like Jehu - Little Big League - Glocca Morra - CSTVT - Knowing We’ll Never Grow Up - Crash of Rhinos - Empire Empire (I Was A Lonely Estate) - Grown Ups - Snowing (they have reunited but only for one offs briefly) - The Brave Little Abacus - Merchant Ships - Park Jefferson - Midwest Pen Pals - William Bonney - Julia Brown - Marietta - Modern Baseball - Brave Bird - Everyone Everywhere
CFD and penfold both definitely did, and the latter has been sorta on and off playing secret shows. Rainer Maria dropped a record about five years ago. The one that surprises me is the promise ring. I wouldn’t count on most of the rest though
The Promise Ring did some Nothing Feels Good shows like ten years ago, right? Them and Texas Is the Reason are probably my last bucket list bands from this scene, but at least I got to Maritime once and they ruled. And yeah, Algernon was great last night.
The Promise Ring and Knapsack have both reunited, Knapsack played Fest and both played Wrecking Ball. Snowing did a tour of Japan, I’d count them as having reunited. Drive Like Jehu also did a couple festivals, I have a shirt from one, just can’t remember which. Merchant Ships won’t reunite, they tried to but one of them was abusive and they called it off. I also wouldn’t expect CSTVT since he’s busy being a literal doctor, or Grown Ups since Cloakroom is pretty successful. Also Little Big League will never ever ever do anything while JBrekkie exists
