Honestly I feel like a lot of the smaller bands like them, For Your Health, and others just say shit on Twitter to be edgy or drum up attention and it's pretty annoying. I love Modern Baseball and the band ended because Jake was going through some mental health issues and when bringing that up to the rest of the band, they all agreed it was not good for their mental health to continue, hence the hiatus.
I wanted to not like them in their early buzz days (bad trait, I know) but Holy Ghost is certainly good, if you like this kind of music. Who cares what other “kinds” you like
Idk I remember hearing rumblings that there were other things going on, specially with regard to Jake not being a great person. People were talking about it on here even. Might have to search the Accountability thread or maybe a Modern Baseball thread to find it though.
I liked a decent amount of songs from Moden Baseball. At least we have Slaughter Beach Dog, seeing them live next month!
It was in the Pinegrove thread. A user said he “didn’t trust” Jake regarding the PG accusations and when pressed didn’t respond. I asked them a year or so ago to clarify and they ignored it, so idk what to make of it
I remember before Holy Ghost came out that the band did an interview and they talked about how Bren (not Jake) was doing bad with mental health issues and stealing money from the band. There is a song on the EP (Waterboy Returns) that is about Jake reaching out to Bren when he was getting ready to jump off a roof. Reddit seems to think Bren prefers the They pronoun now as well but I haven't seen much about that besides a few comments pointing out how Jake referred to Bren as They during an interview.
You’re Gonna Miss It All is one of my favorite albums of all time and Sports is great too so hard disagree Also I don’t think we should turn this thread into a shit on Modern Baseball thread for reasons mentioned above
Sports is the only one I like, purely for nostalgic value no album takes me back to the pre-2013 DIY scene quite like it
Probably unfair but I have never been able to get myself to really dig into their later catalogue after that @chl03k song lol
Slaughter Beach, Dog has some really good stuff. One of the more lifeless live shows I’ve ever seen though. Will always be a little bummed by that memory Mobo, to say the least, was not for me
