Isn’t Arrange a project from an AP poster? If I remember correctly, he was the absolute worst.

Dude bought my poetry book and seems like the nicest guy. No idea what you’re talking about, but must’ve been years ago. Just listen to the record- it’s fantastic.

 

AP days, so 2016 at the latest. The site was incredibly toxic back then.

 

I don’t hold it against him at all and I love his music but his AP persona was atrocious lol

ok. I just thought I’d let know people they’re supporting someone who helped drive people off the site

 

Yeah, I was probably annoying during AP days. And simply recalling someone had a bad internet persona years ago hardly seems reason enough to dismiss an artist.

 

Yeah, honestly, it was just obnoxious trolling. Nothing worth talking about now, but I remember thinking AP was about to implode when he got banned lol

 

I mean, if you really want to dig into a person's absolutepunk history from 5+ years ago: Mal was one of the more progressive voices on the site who went out of his way to promote plenty of artists/films who would otherwise go unnoticed, including many from artists of color that were largely ignored by most of AP. He was abrasive, as were most people on the site, but I rarely if ever recall him being the one to be directly antagonistic or problematic (except to maybe Jason, haha. He certainly got banned more than once). If anything, the people who left the site over him (I can't recall that happening) were most likely spouting ignorant nonsense. When I describe myself as being a shithead back in the day, it was more for baiting and trolling racist and sexist pieces of shit through methods that were obnoxious. He was doing the same stuff, in a way that was absolutely more intelligent and effective than I was.

 

To be clear there’s a long list of posters who had similar/worse schticks who I’m not jumping to defend. They were mostly just dickheads and I honestly don’t think Mal ever crossed that line

 

You obviously knew him better than me. I was mainly a lurker and that’s just what I noticed.

 

Also, in a genre that overpraises white-male artists, Mal’s contribution as an indigenous voice is valuable and significant and deserves way more attention within this community.

hearing that someone used to be abrasive makes me more partial to them if anything

dude was honestly awful to me when I only ever asked for recommendations of music similar to his. him and darr both. i like his music a lot but dude was the single most unpleasant person I've encountered on either site.
