I made a belated thread for the Ogbert album because I threw it on today and it still rips ass Ogbert the Nerd - I Don't Hate You (December 11, 2020) • forum.chorus.fm I also made a thread for Hey, ily! because i know not everyone ventures in here and the new release also rips ass and more people should check it out Hey, ily! • forum.chorus.fm
I don't recognize most of the folks in this, but someone got a bunch of people in the emo scene to recite the "Real Emo" copypasta I wish there was a list that named who all these people are haha
Can someone gimmie a rundown of this 5th Wave drama? Wife had our baby this weekend and am now ready to delve into some meaningless online drama since he’s been a good boy and I slept last night
I saw Home is Where made that big list (which was dope and got me to check out a ton of new bands). And then I saw them apologize lol
Some nerds on Reddit thought the list was “gatekeeping” and that it left out some bands and were needlessly mad about it. Which is of course nonsense, no list is going to be complete and Home Is Where later clarified that literally any band making music after 2017 is 5th wave. People thought the “5th wave bands” were becoming too cliquey on Twitter. I think they also got mad that like one person insulted Modern Baseball lmao.
There's been a running twitter joke(?) about the recent emo bands are part of a "5th wave" which they self defined and some people were complaining about it calling it gate keeping and exclusionary to setup a "group" of bands. Which is completely the opposite of the point what Home is Where and other bands were trying to do when calling each other 5th wave wave and making meme images of what bands are considered part of it. It was more to try to create an expanding group of newer bands that could support each other online and have a good time making jokes in their own in expense in many cases. That's my take at least.
yeah, saw that For Your Health said MoBo should stay in the 2010's and was like, yeah, want no part of this discussion.
Personally I think the 5th wave conversation is dumb bc most of these bands are just remaking Glocca Morra and Brave Little Abacus records. I also can’t fathom feeling like Home is Where should need to apologize for making a recommendation list so kids that Vuillard them into that are rude as hell
Really love that the three releases from this genre I have most vibes with have all had very different styles (Origami Angel, Arms Length, Home Is Where). Kind of shows that people really pick and choose what think “Emo” is in really arbitrary ways.
Walter Etc. has a new album out tomorrow! Edit: since there's no thread at all on their music Walter Etc. - There There (May 7, 2021) • forum.chorus.fm
