Working from the bottom of the page up. Snacking is solid. Kinda hear Kenny of TSL in the vocals, little deeper though. I'm trying to think of who else they remind me of.
I've only ever had an amorphous grasp of emo (and, more specifically, the twinkly kind), but this article did an amazing job of summing it up for me. I listened to Rite of Spring's discography on my dog walk tonight and I can't wait to work my way through Moss Icon and more tomorrow. Cap'n Jazz is currently playing and it's hitting so nicely now that I understand the context of it all!
I am with you in that regard. It is not this threads fault but I have noticed the term become more loose in it's grasp. It is very confusing as a person that has never truly understood it, but if there is anything I can say is that it is very diverse and that in my book is great.
I don’t think it’s important to have a “tangible” grasp of what emo is lol that’s why there are all those memes
It is interesting though because I have seen it more often that not where people say "this isn't emo but I am going to put it here anyway". There was also a run recently where people were posting screamo bands in this thread. Which further leads to the mystery of what "emo" is now. Is it just for bands that don't fit in any other genre? Also, I know personally I have tried to stop trying to put things in neat little boxes but it's just something we do without even thinking about it.
I think it could be said to be both tbh but the former feels more useful for this thread. Making threads for artists/albums that people will never click on feels increasingly redundant so widening the scope of this thread (especially when a lot of these artists tour together, are signed to the same label, are just generally peers AND when the boundaries between emo and indie rock are increasingly blurred) feels like a logical outcome.
I had a debate with someone the other day about indie rock and what it was exactly and they couldn't give a great answer either, so the above posts make sense.
There isn’t a general indie rock thread so stuff that falls in line with that (or even in some cases more singer-songwriter/folky stuff) makes sense to post here. This thread is one of the most active of the genre specific threads so I feel like if it’s something that is at least somewhat adjacent and something you think people in here would dig, post away.
