My shower thought this morning was why hasnt there ever been a Starting Line/TEN tour? Am I crazy to think that would do really well? Certainly a pairing that makes more sense than Hellogoodbye does.
I was being facetious. But I don't think adding those songs will change many minds. I bet what happened was people didn't look at the setlist prior, expected it to just be a regular TEN show, expected to hear some fan favorites, realized they didn't know any of the songs they played, and then left bummed out comments/messages on the band's socials. I'm not mad at them for this anniversary tour. I wish more bands would celebrate albums that aren't necessarily the fan-favorites. But when bands do that, they need to realistically think about the size rooms/length of the tours. TEN probably should have only done like 3-5 TMTMTP shows in larger rooms to get people to travel out for it, rather than a full 2 month tour.
to be fair, no one even knows what the surprise is lol. we’re all just assuming it was the swapping out of songs, which some of us were already expressing disappointment over before the “surprise” announcement. this is what they did for the 10 year anniversary and I attended 2 of the 3 dates to that and the room was full for both shows.
I getcha, and again apologies for bud, I totally get the history and background of words like that, guys, dude, etc when it comes to gender norms. I'm also acutely aware that living in California, these words are maybe used more fluidly than elsewhere, for better or worse. I refer to my daughter as buddy and bud all the time, I also call my son honey constantly because they are both my buds and both my honeys. That being said, again I understand the long and complex nature of the terms so I can do my best to be cognizant of it going forward, I clearly view you as a person that I respect and you deserve the respect. While I clearly frequent these forums, I am almost always just in band/album threads and rarely dip into threads where there's more personal discussions, there are very few users that I can tell you anything about them aside from their posting habits or likes/dislikes, gun to my head I couldn't tell most people's space on the gender spectrum aside from those I have met in real life, because I don't know any of you personally. But hey, now I do, and I just want to tell you that it doesn't change anything about who I know you for, and I am very proud of you for being who you are and knowing the struggles you must have gone through and go through, sending love at all times. Also, I can acknowledge that my use of bud was indeed in a not-nice way, I was trying to use it just to say I didn't want to argue and engage, so sorry it was curt. Aaand lastly, regarding the band itself. I just had found it baffling to watch the whole thread go through a cycle of "wow these shows are empty" to "probably because of the album they are playing is niche" and then a seeming disconnect when the band adds in, and promotes, their greatest hits in a way that looks like an immediate reply to the situation. Especially after multiple people, myself included, have mentioned that we don't care for this hellogoodbye album and wish it was something else. I personally do not have a ticket, but if hellogoodybe were playing a greatest hits set instead, I would immediately buy a ticket. It's hard out there for this level of band, this far into their career, and while the hardcore fans (us in this thread) are obviously down for them doing something cool and creative like playing their triple disc, it definitely turns off more casual fans, or hellogoodbye fans, so unfortuately they probably feel like they need to make adjustments to make this tour profitable
Wow....let's get back to the band... Id go to a show if it were closer than 3 hours away from me, OR has TSL instead of HGB like someone above said cause I havent seen them in almost 20 years now. Id also not complain about seeing those 3 songs at the show, or never hearing them again in my life. They are the equivalent of first date, ATST, and WMAA for Blink in my book
If we’re being honest, it doesn’t really matter what the band tours on. They aren’t going to be a big draw no matter how they package a tour. I can only speak for the Cleveland area, but they have NEVER sold well here. Their 2012 reunion show was probably the least attended show I’ve ever seen at House of Blues Cleveland and that was arguably the height of their popularity (outside of their initial surge). Since then, they play super small venues (300 cap) around here in niche areas (Mahalls in Lakewood, Musica in Akron) and those don’t even sell out. The venue for next week’s Cleveland show has already been downgraded. It also doesn’t help that at this point, it’s really just Ace and a traveling group of musicians who round out the band. Switching up a setlist is honestly not going to move the needle for this band or its fanbase. Maybe an extra 5-10 tickets per show? I even doubt that (especially because hardly any of the sets are even being posted online). All that said, it was super cool to hear that the VIP set was going to be TMTMTP songs not being played during the show - and even cooler to see night 1 set be all songs that they almost never, ever play and now they seem to be deviating from that and playing songs most of us have seen every single time we’ve ever seen them while cutting some deep cuts that we’ll likely never ever get a chance to see live. I don’t know, I just find it kind of lame because it’s just not gonna make a difference overall at this point of the tour. Ultimately it’s a big ‘whatever’ for me. I’m still gonna go to the show.
Was at the Buffalo show and I think the surprise was just adding those three songs to the set. The show was already sparsely attended(around 200 I guess) and probably dropped to 100 by the time TEN started. I will say as much as I could do with out these three songs, they were definitely the ones the crowd got into the most last night. The only other thing that might constitute as a nice surprise is Ace was meeting people at the merch table after the show, but that might be a thing he always does.
I feel like Senses Fail had to do this once for an obscure album tour too. If the fans that do show up are disappointed it makes sense to tweak the setlist going forward. If any band plays a set that is 50% of their non hit album, I’d still consider it an “anniversary” show. I’d almost rather have a greatest hits set with 5-6 deep cuts from a special album then full album plays for most bands.
No SF actually played all of LINAWR on their tour, which wasn’t a super successful album. This tour playing an 800 cap room here is definitely a pretty big miss. I feel like the albums actually make this tour missable for most fans of these bands. Not every album needs a tour to celebrate it and this tour is proof of that.
Simple Plan and Sum 41 dropped their album playthroughs after a handful of shows. But I just don’t get it. You advertise the tour as one thing, which is what I bought the ticket for, and I’m not supposed to be pissed that you drop 4 songs before my date (which I’m driving 4 hours round trip to)? Jeff said to vote on which of the 3 songs that weren’t making the set for Ace to play for the $75 VIP acoustic set, and then they don’t play any… fucking commit to what you said you were going to do or don’t bother saying anything at all. I did not expect a bunch of my goodwill towards this band getting rapidly drained in such a short time from all the bait and switch.
People (as a whole) didn’t like the album very much when it came out and aren’t going to the shows for it now, doesn’t really shock me. If it’s selling like people are saying it’s probably this or cancel it. You can’t really tour 100 people nights and make any profit.
yea im repeating myself from a page or 2 ago but it baffles me. big choruses, good unique voice, super catchy. should've been one of the biggest records of that year. i remember picking it up used not too long before in currents came out (hadn't heard the band yet), immediately loving it, and didn't realize for like a decade it wasn't super popular.
My guess with the VIP situation is the majority of purchasers just didn't vote at all. That kind of reminds me of Underoath's TOCS tour in 2024. They gave fans the opportunity to vote for any 5 songs from their entire catalog to be played in the encore, and were advertising it as being a deep cut set.....but the majority of the ticket buyers didnt vote and the ones who did just voted for the big singles that they've been doing every night for 20 years.
I don’t think anyone hates it. Just think they are neutral to it. Emo bands were known for 12 song records at the time. Armor for Sleep released a concept album the year before and it’s their most widely recognized album. The concept just didn’t connect with the fan base at the time. After re-reading the concept for each “disc”, I’m gonna go back and check them out. Seems more interesting to me now at 42. Haha. On an aside, the Acoustic EP was probably the coolest CD I had. It was clear with the leaf on it.
I mean, it's not even the first time they toured this album, so clearly they thought they could do it again. Again, I'm of the mindset that I don't think it matters what they would have sold this tour as - they're at a point of their career where not much is going to move the needle. Regular tour, anniversary tour, it just probably doesn't matter at this point.
I don't listen to HGB but by what many others have said, sounds like HGB has been the bigger draw for this tour, which is real bleak, imo.
It’s a chore to dive into. The third disc is not the easiest thing to digest. And another element that gets lost to time is that it took a while for the band to be in a position to release it. (Same could be said for HGB but they had a hit single)
