the original set was literally perfect. I’d be cool with a change if it were to expand the original set by adding a few cuts from other albums (would prefer just adding more TMTMTP tho), but if it’s to cut 3 of my favorite songs from the whole album to add 3 of their most played-to-death songs? laaaaaaame.
What do Serg, Joe, and Bill do these days? I know Jeff has a full time job when they’re not touring. Joe had a donut shop for a bit too. Wish they’d get the original lineup back together even if if was for a few shows.
As of summer 2024, Ace was pretty confident that the other guys would never play again. He and Jeff talk to Joe all the time as he managed the band. They seemed to be in an out of touch with Bill and Serg. That’s what Ace said during a VIP I went to then. Obviously, it’s been 2 years and anything can change at anytime, but I’d be surprised if it’s a OG on stage tonight and the rest of tour.
I was thinking person makes sense to hype way more than a song, but would be sad to add a new bassist thst can harmonize for 2 shows to noot him. Bill would be a solid add though
I would think this is the likeliest solution, but like, what song do they have in their category that people would be surprised to see added to the set? Which makes me think it's something dumber, like a cover.
it just seems like a dumb and unnecessary move, I don’t see what adding 3 songs from other albums is going to do to convince a significant amount of people to attend these shows, and now the bulk of the advertisements and insta posts I have been seeing from them in the past few days have had Ever So Sweet, I Want to Hear You Sad, and Baby Blue in them… you’re advertising an anniversary tour of an album with songs not even from that album??? just feels like they’re more so risking alienating the people planning on attending the shows because they have an earnest love for the album and are excited to see some songs live that the band rarely or never plays. by lying about the VIP set do you mean that Jeff posted that video on Insta saying the VIP set was a chance to see songs from the album not included in the main set and now it seems all the VIP songs are non-TMTMTP? or is there something else? that kinda rubbed me the wrong way too, but I kinda just felt like “oh well, guess I can save some money and not get VIP.”
Are you guys dense? Sorry, but this is weird that you don't get it. This very thread talked in detail about how empty the TEN shows have been and how niche this album is. Guess what, looks like you were all right and it's not selling how they hoped for... Adding in a few of their biggest hits and promoting with them, that's directly a solve to the issue that people have been discussing in this very thread.
no, I am not dense and you do not have to be a condescending fucking asshole. I am disappointed, not surprised and I don’t have any illusions about why they’re doing this, however I don’t think that adding 3 songs is going to sway people who do not care for the rest of the entire set to attend.
well gee I guess you do have to be a condescending asshole bc you’re doing it with this reply too. you literally used a term meant to insult my intelligence, I am not stupid and I understand why they’re doing it but I think it’s a miscalculation. also, for future reference, I consider “bud” to be a masculine coded term and you do not have my permission as a trans woman to use it in reference to me.
Apologies, I've never known or assumed your gender so I'm sorry that term is one you don't prefer, I won't use that term for you in the future.
I appreciate the apology, sincerely. not that I don’t believe you, and not that I don’t believe some people use “bud” gender-neutrally (I have a particular history with that word I won’t get into), but I kind of just assume most long time users know I am a trans woman so that’s on me for that assumption too. and I feel like I should in good faith apologize for how hot I came in as well in response to you, but to be completely honest with you I am particularly sensitive to having my intelligence insulted so it does get me heated, especially when I feel it’s based on a misunderstanding of my position. I agree that what you said is what they’re trying to accomplish, I just personally don’t think it’s going to move the needle enough to be worth disappointing the die-hards who want to see the triple disc songs. I could very well be wrong tho, based on @bradsonemanband reply. I guess I just feel like you could catch any given TEN tour and be guaranteed to hear those songs so why attend a show where the rest of the set is songs you don’t care about. that’s just how I would make the calculation personally.
I honestly didn't decide to buy my ticket until Punchline was added to the bill, but those three songs definitely wouldn't have swayed me to go over just playing songs from this album. With that said, the best songs (to me) in the Hellogoodbye set were the non-ZAVD ones and I think the same might've been true for The Early November. I've probably spent the most time with TMTMTP because that was my entry point to the band, but having a few songs from In Currents/Imbue would have a big bonus for me (even if it meant taking 3-4 songs out of the album set). There were definitely people there for TMTMTP/The Early November, but the crowd really opened up for Hellogoodbye, and I think having a few more well-known songs wouldn't hurt the response/excitement for a band that is sort of billed as the main headliner and is playing the longest amount of time in the second slot. Even liking TMTMTP a lot and with it being their highest-charting record, it's really hard to think of it in the same category as other albums that typically get anniversary tours. Maybe part of it is that I also think this specific album works better as more of a solitary listening experience and they were toeing the line of translating that to a show by having the spoken parts (which I like having more of and would love to have available at some point) over the speakers but otherwise playing the songs (well) as just guys in a band on a fairly empty stage. I don't need them to go full character, but the production for shows celebrating this kind of concept album could benefit from some extra stuff (projection/screens, more of Ace talking about how things fit together, etc.) to translate it live.
