not sure this really holds together as an album but I like all the songs there's an effect that comes in and out on some of the songs that makes them sound like the files are low quality or something? could be my headphones? I hear it mostly on Open Eyes and 5am. like a fuzzy feedback effect?
Same here so far, I was really excited for it, but it mostly felt like a compilation album (which it actually kinda is). I'll get back to it a lot anyways for sure.
As a long-time TEN fan, the new songs on this album are a major letdown. Compared to songs from Imbue, the music and lyrics feel like a backwards progression.
So I loved the singles here, one of those b-sides was new to me (to all of us I guess), the rest came with nostalgia and I felt it! But I was a bit overwhelmed getting a full proper listen on good headphones at night. Now I've just put it on at work and it sounds great, so I'm starting to get a feeling that maybe they've mixed it in a way that's profitable for a more common audience or something, seeing as I only have two small speakers here in the office and it feels like it works better. I'm aware most people consume music exactly this way, or maybe even through their phones etc., but I do miss the immersion in more layers that they used to provide (though still a solid job if it was all only Ace and Jeff)
Been looking forward to hearing this album and I’ve enjoyed what I’ve heard so far. My own dialogue is a stand out from the songs not already released. I’d never heard the demos from years ago so they’ve all been new songs to me on first listen.
I only just found out about this whole album. interesting way of redoing old stuff for sure does anyone have the originals of these lying around? I've got Five Years but the other stuff is harder to find
Definitely like this album overall but will need more time for it to kinda... fit together, I think. Just knowing half the songs for so long, mixed with new stuff, gets a bit confusing haha
Five Years feels like the most successful re-record after one listen, it jams pretty hard on here. Open Eyes feels like the worst, it just doesn't have any of the pure emotion of the original. Pretty Pretty and Make It Happen both feel... OK, but not great
I'm enjoying this a fair bit, maybe more than Lilac. did a side-by-side of the originals and new versions, def see how having them for years would throw you off but I think they did a pretty great job. the new 5am on Sunday and Make it Happen are really cool, and Denent is just a jam
This is a fun listen for the throwback vibes of it all but oof do I find the production/mixing or whatever... off. I don't really know how to explain but it takes me out of the songs at times.
I don't know if it was on purpose, but the production and mixing definitely helps with making this a throwback to that era. Like when i think of the records from that time, this is how they sounded to me growing up.
Good point, and I figured it was intentional. I just thought the guitars sounded distant or buried at times
