Have ticket pages gone up for these shows yet? Definitely wanna set a reminder to get a ticket to the LA show.
It is ambitious, but when you're young (without a manger, without legal counsel, and little knowledge of how contracts and the industry works) and an absolute willingness do anything to get your first if HUGE break, it's worth it. On its face, the band still seems very gracious to DTR. Although the contract was ridiculous, they did get that break, as the signing exposed them to a massive audience (DTR's fan base was enormous at the time of TEN's signing), bought them a van, and equipment - basically providing the band with all of the necessary tools to have a successful career. Quite often Ace alludes to money in his songs and frequently states that he wish he cared more about it when he was younger. For him, it has always been about reaching an audience. DTR gave him the initial means to do so. The best example is that the band, went against their label, and cut their royalties so the triple disc could be sold at a regular retail price of $15 (this was nearing the end of the time when bands in this scene sold enough albums to make significant royalties). But still, there is something to be said about ethical business practices and not taking advantage of your own employees / persons you contract with. If DTR was more ethically sound (just my view) they may have not offered such a huge deal. But then again, maybe the intention was that they knew this band was going to be big and thought the label would exist for quite some time and they wanted to lock the band up so they couldn't move to a different label if they experienced success. Aka, we're funding this band's start up costs and want to hold on to them long enough to see the big return on investment.
I could be wrong or might not know of all of them. But I think most of their old b-sides are out there. The only b-side I know of that isn't released is the version of Just Enough that was recorded during TRTC. I know the b side album was suppose to be a thing and it fell through.
Most are. There is also a pretty decent live version of Just Enough floating around, too. And most likely these b-sides were able to be released without any legal repercussions because they are demos, and they are not studio versions where the label was paying for them to be constructed / made.
I think I'm gonna listen to An Excellent Attempt At Next To Youism now. It's been such a long time since I've listened to anything on that.
The chorus to Mountain Range is sick. I wish the verses were better, haha. Still love the song though.
I agree the chorus by far makes the song. I really love how they added the build up in the bridge when they play it live
I was going to say this!!!! I've always been jealous of never hearing that live. I might die if they actually do this.
