Yeah it's a great watch but it's so hard to watch them all kind of get frustrated. I still don't quite understand why Ace is laying into Bill the way he is. Also one of the few times I've seen them reference "Ten Years", although they don't mention why it was cut. Also really interesting to get a glimpse of what The Path was originally supposed to be.
What is "Ten Years"? I think it was implied to be from a criticism that sent Ace over, I think. From the way it was talked about, that's what it seemed like "don't you think you're being sensitive" etc. Might be he wanted a break and everyone else maybe wanted to change to a traditional LP. I like the way the Path ended up more than what they wanted it to be at first, I think. I'll never know for sure but I like the ideas of how it ended vs how it could've been better.
Ten Years is a b-side from the TMTMTP sessions. Yeah it seemed like Bill or the producer kind of insinuated that Ace was being really sensitive and too demanding and that just sent him over the edge. I guess when you're in a studio that long that's bound to happen, I'm sure the other members just wanted to do an 11 track rock album.
where do i find it? a quick google yielded no results, but im about to check youtube. Also it's for the best he stuck to this idea, can you imagine just one of these discs as a follow up and not all three? (you probably can, but instead, envision the hole you'd have in you that you didn't know was there haha) edit: still no luck
Yeah. It's actually Five Years. Can't believe I got the title wrong lol. I don't think the studio version is on YouTube but I know the demo is. I'd hook you up with a download but I don't have my computer.
Thanks, found it! the demo, anyway. I enjoyed the gang vocals a lot. This demo literally sounds like the mid 2000s, if that makes sense. but the good part. If you remember and wanna give me that hook up when you ARE near a computer.... ;) but i won't be a pest about it haha
It's a really good rock song. Joe refers to it as a "basic rock song" in the dock but it's got some nice heavy guitars and great drum fills. Should've been on the album imo
i think TRTC is such an underrated classic in the scene. I feel like it never gets talked about. I need to do a write-up on that album at some point since it means as much to me as TMTMTP means to Jordan and Audrey (but i also love that album a lot, in addition to those two ). Really this band is super super underrated. A great, dynamic rock band that can pull off a lot of sounds.
I kind of want to listen to TMTMTP but the idea of a 2 hr 12 min pop, rock, emo whatevs album seems exhausting... I'm not really sure what I want to obtain from this post... I'm just posting, you know... whining a little bit... CONTENT: I really like Narrow Mouth and Boxing Timeline, cheese notwithstanding
In addition to everything on the Mechanic, or in place of something? My theory is that TEN gets a bad rap for basically being a Drive Thru band, but to my ears they don't sound like really any of the bands of that era that are doing the really straightforward pop punk thing. Like the musicianship they've exhibited, whether it be sounding like indie, alt, or emo, is far and away better than a lot of the things in that era imo. But they get lumped in anyway and I think that kills some of their "credibility" to a lot of people. And TRTC is a good example of that -- it's dark and moody and better than a lot of debuts. Stands with plenty of "credible" indie rock. I can see why they would have that association lyrically, but even then, they're better than 99% of those bands. This is only not 100 because I haven't listened to EVERY single one of the Drive Thru bands.
It's really not held back by genre at all. I'd call it an emo or rock album solely based on the scene they came from but it touches on a lot of genres in a way that seems very cohesive, especially after The Mechanic which is the most straightforward. I'd give it a shot, though maybe not all at once. At least one disc is sure to be to your liking, from what I've seen.
I think it's fair to put TRTC up with Emergency & I and The Ugly Organ as a super influential dark, moody, emo rock album. And yeah maybe replace Long Talks or even just put it after Make A Decision and just make it 12 tracks
wait what E&I emo? anyway... if you pair this shit w E&I and Ugly Organ I'll take yr word for it and give it a shot
TRTC underrated as fuck in this scene, yep yep. Yeah, just slap that bad boy on the end of the Mechanic, 12 tracks, heck yeah. Thinking about it, TMTMTP actually has no right being as good as it is, since it's literally a triple disc. It's fucked up how good it is. It's the bands second album. I haven't listened to Emergency & I but emo is a p broad "anything goes as long as it's kinda punk/diy/indie" genre in my head. But I know the acclaim that record has and I feel like your expectations just skyrocketed haha
yeah, I mean... it's quite the album (and not even my DP favorite), but it's kind of an indie pop/rock meets post-hxc album in my head, which is quite the unique pairing and what makes them a special band, I think
I've listened to "!" and that was cool, liked the lyricism of it, though it's p straightforward posthardcore which through me for a loop considering what I'd heard about E&I. But I mean idk I mostly think genres are arbitrary and more like guidelines than anything hard and fast. Just a band by band or artist by artist system for me. This is dumb though I haven't even listened to that album I'm completely talking out of my ass rn
