I just noticed the sound of a ticking clock during the bridge. Liking this more and more with each listen.
Same here. As someone who loves everything from TRTC to Imbue, the new song and video feels super generic.
I think all 3 songs are great and a pretty natural progression, I could not be more excited for this record.
Can’t speak to their live set but their new record isn’t bad. Jimmy Eat World/Turnover vibes. If I had to guess though I’d bet they’re not really a must see kind of band
The first two Have Mercy records are really great. They are somewhat hit or miss live but definitely worth seeing. Their new record is solid too I just haven't listened much. I've also heard really great things about OWEL but haven't seen them or really listened
I've listened to Ave Maria so many times. Just ready for this album. Any chance they are selling it during the tour?
It really weirds me out that anyone is calling Ave Marie "generic" or mainstream or whatever, a lot of this song is the most experiemental I have heard from them in a while. The way Ace sings the chorus, the offbeat drums and vocal play, there's nothing mainstream about that at all. "I thought if I looked nice, then I would feel nice And you would see me right, you would see me right But it was an old lie, it was a cold lie It was a long night, a long night" The way that is sung is far, far, farrrrrrr from generic. Anyway, that's where I am at, this song is dope
It is experimental under the name “The Early November,” but for Ace’s discography, not so much. This more kind of beat oriented sound has been explored previously on Enola & Hiraeth, and unfortunately for me, it does feel kind of what we’ve been getting lately from him. So far it feels like an ace solo record under the TEN name. None of these songs really do anything for me and that’s a first for Ace. Generic’s definitely not the right word, but I don’t know, they’re different yet kind of bland to me. The songs just stay flatlined, and don’t really take off.
That's a fair argument, I personally really like how lush and pretty these songs feel. The songs, the album art and color scheme, plus the word "Lilac" itself all really fit together for me in an overall vibe for this album era.
