i completely forgot about this album until this thread bump, i listened to it one time and that was it.
yes - thanks for the reminder, i remember this being one of my faves from them as well but havent returned to it. will spin fasho
Easily my favorite. My brother and I played the shit out of it at our crappy restaurant job right after I got out of high school
Wearing the tie just goes so fuckin hard just in time to get emotionally devastated by call off the bells
while In Currents as a whole isn’t really close to my favorite by the band, it is a great record, especially as a post-hiatus comeback record. I also have some incredibly fond memories attached to it and the time period that it came out that makes it feel special to me regardless. not to mention the joy I felt having what, at the time, was my favorite band fully back. I was at the reunion show in NJ where they announced they were going to make what became In Currents and it was such a special thing to experience. I got into the band during their hiatus and I always kinda felt like they weren’t going to reunite during that time. anyway happy birthday In Currents!
when this thread got bumped before it made me think about this album and all the other pure noise releases that dropped last year, they were all more or less forgettable for me, state champs, four year strong, the story so far, and early november.. which made me sad, all those bands were my favorites at one point
The Mother, The Mechanic, and The Path turns 19 today. Somehow, the wait from The Room Is Cold to the album feels longer than from its release to now. Weird.
Band is teasing something for its 20th next year. Probably won’t be announced until next year whatever it is. Would be wild if they somehow chose to play all of it on a tour.
hbd to what is still my favorite by the band. I saw two of the ten year shows for TMTMTP and they were phenomenal, although I was hoping to get some songs that didn’t make the cut (and there were a couple that were played that I would have switched out for other songs if I had the power). would be cool if they did another tour for it but played, if not all of it, some different selections. can’t believe it’s been nearly ten fucking years since then!!! I got a video of the full set from the Boston show of that run, if anyone wants to check it out:
This was a really enjoyable listen. Impressed by how unwilling to "play the game" Ace was even at his young age when they were first signed and how much he desires authenticity in music over a polished sound. Think the album is really good even a year later, especially the first 6/7 songs. For me the melodies on The Empress and About Me have stuck with me more than anything say NFG or Blink have released in the last decade.
Indeed that last album has legs, it is so good and it is positively criminal how slept on it and this band are.
So I loved In-Currents and Imbue is maybe an all timer for me, but thought Lilac was such a terrible record. I’ve kinda just ignored the band since then as they did their compilation albums, but was reminded of this when I saw the news for Ace’s new album. Did anyone with similar sentiments get anything of this one? I remember hearing the DGD sounding song and thinking it was weird, but not necessarily bad lol
