I threw on TRTC immediately after this one earlier today, and holy hell has Ace’s voice gotten so much stronger. I can’t think of another scene band from that era that I can say the same for.
Ace was dead on this really does reflect all the phases of The Early November and does it well. I hear aspects of all the things I've loved from previous works. I have a hard time thinking anyone who has ever like The Early November at any phase wouldn't be into this. So hurrah for them really kicking out what I hope gets to be a pretty relevant album. Skip the first song then Dave? I think Empress is my least favorite right now but I need to spend some time with it and I'm partial to songs where Early November goes hard instrumentally or is fast paced. The album really does hit all the right corners and gets aspects of sound. Too many bands I feel put out albums that just play the same sound over and over so it's nice to have some diversity on this one.
Album is all bangers, but right now I find myself repeating We Hang On, The Dirtiest Things and It Will Always Be the most. Tired of Lying might be the best but I overplayed the shit out of that before the album release.
I’ve never been a huge fan of this band but I dig this. Need to go back and revisit their discog to see if anything hits. Been a while. Any recs?
Every Night's Another Story, Fluxy, Ever So Sweet, Decoration, Hair, 1000 Times A Day, Better This Way, Make It Happen, Ave Maria are the hits from most of the albums and my favs. I prefer uptempo stuff though. If you're going to do listen throughs I'd recommend For All Of This, The Room's Too Cold, Imbue, Lilac. All worth it. I have to go back to In Currents, but damn you can't go wrong really. In all honesty their triple album has some great songs on it but was mostly a swing and a miss. You can't really go wrong, they do so many things there'll be stuff you like and don't probably. Edit: The beginnings are pretty much nostalgia lane but I don't know the simple melodies still capture me.
Yeah Currents kills TRTC if you weren't "there" for it at the time... was hoping/expecting a return album like that from TBS I got it with Happiness Is
That’s the last one I remember coming out but like I said I’ve never been huge so I don’t know if I ever checked it out. Will be listening tonight or tomorrow for sure
I kinda wish they would re-record their pre-Currents albums because I cannot get past the vocals on some songs. Literally would take just a rerecording of the vocals with the same mixes behind it. Anyways, this record rules and I'm so happy to be loving a new TEN record in 2024.
Sorry did not go through the discussions but did somebody already pointed out that intro riff/drums from “The Empress” is straight up the same as the Southern Air intro from Yellowcard?
I was only able to listen to it twice in the background but what stood out to me is it feels like Lilac writing with the energy of Imbue/In Currents.
Their later work has been very hit or miss for me - wasn’t into In Currents, loved Imbue, didn’t like Lilac - but I’m liking this one so far
have yet to get around to listening tbh, haven’t really been in the headspace for it or even had the time really to give it a fair shake. I am definitely hopeful based on the reception here that I will like it more than Twenty or Lilac at least.
