That was just at my independent theatre and I got sick the day I planned to go. Really wish I got to see it on the big screen
I watched OJ Made in America and it was fantastic. Also watched Grizzly Man the other day and it was good
Damn, really regret missing it at my theatre too but it never timed out the one week played Just watched Kate Plays Christine, incredible
We've got Hot Docs festival going on right now and I've caught 4 so far, with 4 more this weekend. I highly recommend keeping and eye out for Komunia and The Challenge. Also finally going to go see I Am Not Your Negro next week after not taking the opportunity the last 2 months.
Watching Ken Burn's The Vietnam War, it's doing a great job so far setting up the seeds that grew into the war in the first episode.
Voyeur Jesus Christ...this is terrifying and a really interesting look at ethics in journalism, highly recommended
Been really wanting to watch this. I also have yet to see Tickled which was high up on my list last year.
Just had the first of my annual Hoop dreams watches — that is, I watched Hoop Dreams for the first time and will watch it at least once a year from here on out
Watching Wild Wild Country, what a crazy story. Btw, Netflix truly has a knack for putting out quality documentary series.
It’s amazing ! Only got 2 eps down so far....aaand I’m currently sympathizing with the cult. We’ll see how that changes as it goes on.
I watched LA 92 last night on Netflix. The lack of a narrator and only using footage from the time period were really effective film techniques IMO. I felt drained mentally after watching it though - some of the violence was hard to take in.
Haven't seen that but your description reminds me of one of my favorite ESPN 30 for 30 docs, "June 17th, 1994". It features no narration and no interviews and consists of music set to clips from news sources during that day.
I watched Murder on A Sunday Morning because I was curious to see what else Lestrade (the Staircase) had done. It is a much more clear cut and straight forward look at what is still a glaring flaw in the criminal justice system, specifically the combination of racial profiling and the police and prosecutors trying to prove a single suspect is guilty, rather than investigating for the truth. I was able to find the full movie on youtube.
Looks like Moore's film was loved in Toronto. http://www.vulture.com/2018/09/tiff-review-michael-moores-fahrenheit-11-9-is-a-must-see.html https://www.salon.com/2018/09/07/michael-moores-fahrenheit-119-is-a-terrifying-tour-de-force/
finally watched Jiro Dreams of Sushi yesterday, thought it was fantastic and heartwarming. I've only caught a couple episodes of Chef's Table but I'm definitely going to go back and watch all of it now. Three Identical Strangers was fascinating and unnerving in equal measure. Can't believe that happened.
Just watched Tickled for the first time yesterday after being recommended it. All I'll say is WOW. What a ride.
So great. If you haven't seen Dark Tourist, it's a series the filmmaker just recently did for Netflix and is well worth a watch
