posting here because I don't know where else to post this this dude put out one of my favorite albums ever, and now, 8 years later, he puts a new record under a new name in it is differnet yet not completely different, and it is sick as fuuuuuuuuck listen to this it is fucking amazing
Sebadoh comes immediately to mind obviously... it is different but you will like them, plus Lou was on Dino, then left, then returned I like Sebadoh more than Dino
Jesus, so sad. Is it far to lump all of Epoch into this since it seems largely aimed at the Small Wonder guy or am I missing something there?
well Henry plays in Told Slant, Bellows, and Eskimeaux, so that's probably why the blanket accusation, but if someone else knows more they could tell you if im wrong or not
ugh idk. is this only specifically aiming at the small wonder person and not the rest of the epoch for knowing and not doing anything about it? also just seems like he was shitty in a relationship, sort of like the turnover dude, and those situations are weird to me.
There's a difference between being shitty in a relationship and being abusive in a relationship which I think is the message here.
yeah, i know. i wasn't saying he's a good dude or forgiving his actions, it's just another situation that i really haven't been able to really decide how i necessarily feel as an outsider consuming a product.
like, idk. i don't want to judge emotional abuse as "better" or "worse" than physical abuse, it's just less cut and dry than something like sexual assault. definitely something i need to spend some time thinking through
Wish the Epoch would make a statement about it, not saying anything makes it feel like they're complicit in the abuse and that really, really fucking sucks on top of an already shitty thing happening to someone
i mean i talked to gabby and she gave me a very understandable and believable reason why no comment was made publicly (or should be made, assuming what she said is true it's very commendable that she didn't say anything), however the more situations like this come up the more worried i get though i truly can't imagine pwr bttm loving gabby if it wasn't true what she told me.
I don't doubt that they have reasons for keeping quiet, but I don't know if that's really enough, still on the fence about it. Isn't part of being responsible addressing things of this nature? Isn't having an open dialogue the way to foster feelings of safety for victims? It seems like if people feel like they're being ignored, these situations will just be swept under the rug and happen more often. I have no idea how to keep these things from happening on a macro level outside of changing the way we operate as a culture, but on a micro level, I really think open dialogues and responding to victims is the way to start change in the larger music scene. I thought of the PWR BTTM thing too (and I think Mitski and the people associated with the bedroom pop/Orchid Tapes/Bird Tapes type stuff have a lot of affection for the Epoch as well) but you never really know who is gonna do this, right? Like, people usually don't think that their friend is going to abuse or assault anyone, but you can't know everything about a person so
Back to the tunes then Why has nobody been talking about this excellent Ian Sweet record that I'm just hearing now? It's incredible
