Cat Be Damned – “Soft Collision” (Stereogum Premiere) also a tour with swings and emily yacina (just four days, dc, baltimore, philly, boston)
I am not really sure what the DIY scene is like in Cleveland/Akron right now. I need to find out somehow. With that being said, I know Worship This! has been getting some buzz, but they play some cool DIY punk rock. Beyond that, I know Cleveland birthed the Sidekicks before they moved down to Columbus. They are tied to a DIY scene that was tight with Lemuria, Latterman, Saint Seneca, Slingshot Dakota, early Bridge and Tunnel, The Copyrights, my friends Delay, and several others. I think Tigers Jaw was in that DIY scene too. I really don't know how to contribute, so I figured I would go down memory lane and do some name dropping haha.
From what I know it's real nice. @JaytotheGee could probably tell you a lot, Runaway Brother is local as well
Yeah man the DIY scene has been kind of all over the place. I'd highly recommend checking out Heart Attack Man and Runaway Brother. There's a lot more and if you're ever looking for local shows, local bands etc let me know! I work for BravoArtist and we book a lot of locals
Are you the user formerly know as JayToTheSYG? Pretty sure we used to cross paths in a lot of threads over at AP and were usually at the same shows haha. Thanks @cwhit and @shouts23 for the recommendations! I will run through these shortly.
so this wont really fit with a lot of the bands talked about in here, but I learnt recently they have some ties to this whole scene... Everyone should listen to Terror Pigeon (formally Terror Pigeon Dance Revolt). Its over top DIY dance music, but just like the 2nd Sharpeless album, behind all the production is very endearing lyrics. I consider their first album to be an absolute classic at this point, defiantly considering i've been listening to it on a consistent basis for the past 5/6 years and its still never gotten old.
i like sharpless! i'll have to check it out! that's the cool thing about this scene, you don't need a sound that ties you down, it's all about your mentality and how you approach music, which i think is the most important point
i totally agree. there's this level of genuineness behind all the music in this scene that makes me keep coming back to it.
Yeesh – “End Results” (Stereogum Premiere) this is good: RIYL palm and two inch astronaut. met one of these guys a few years ago trying to help him book a show, didn't work out but he's a nice guy and i'm glad to see them doing well
Finally coming around to DIY & emo (and ofher similar styles) music in the past year or so is making it even more impossible to keep up with what's new. I feel like under those two umbrellas, there's constantly SO much recent shit to keep track of.
King of NJ DIY Mikey Erg is releasing his first solo album soon and the first track is greeeeeeat and everyone should listen to it. Mikey Erg announces his debut solo album, streams “Comme Si About Me”
UGH that DC Show is the same day as sunday for new alternative fest... basically it's this vs Daniel Bachman, Basement Benders, Big Eyes, Brick Mower, Groucho Marxists, The Hotelier, The Max Levine Ensemble, Mikey Erg, Mirah, Nervous Triggers, Painted Zeros, Puff Pieces, Radiator Hospital, Roadside Graves, Trophy Wife, Worriers.
looks like hop along isn't on your date? are they playing toronto some time before then that there's a radius clause for?
