The couple was before filming of the Room started, the other lady was sometime after that.

I love The Room, love everyone involved with this movie and love Greg’s book, so I’m having trouble coming to terms with why I wasn’t super into this movie. I’ll write out some thoughts soon I think

So.. I’m late to the party. But do I have to see The Room before watching this?

I really enjoyed this movie. Sadly, it’s not really one I feel the need to return to. As you mentioned, I too love everything that surrounds this movie. However, I find that when I separate myself from all of that stuff and just start viewing it as its own thing, it sort of starts to fall apart for me. It was a very enjoyable watch, and because of my love for The Room/Tommy, I had a lot of fun. But that’s about it. Perhaps it’s a little silly of me, but for some reason I was expecting something a little more profound.

Saw this tonight and it honestly completely lived up to the hype for me. Franco nailed it on all fronts, such a perfect blend of comedy and drama. Cast is perfect

Can't wait for the Blu-Ray features. I wish they remade the entire Room movie but even the half hour that Franco says they did will be great

No, I've never seen The Room, I think some familiarity with it helps

I think you have to see the room first. Tommys way of talking is like the whole joke to me with his .. ha ha. And sluring language.

Because there's so many good movies I need to see and good albums etc that it feels like I'd be wasting time

I get this sentiment, but maybe you shouldn't waste time on The Disaster Artist either, then.

Might as well think of The Room and The Disaster Artist as one 4 hour film and just watch both.

I was always hesitant on seeing the Room until earlier this year, because I was always like "I don't want to watch a movie knowing it's bad" and I'm not into the "so bad it's good" line of thought on some movies, but I wouldn't even compare watching the Room to watching a movie, it's just a great experience. It's a worthwhile, valuable viewing because it's so unique and genuinely funny and psychologically interesting and the technicality of the filmmaking is literally spectacular, just spectacularly wrong.

Me and my buds have been watching bad movies all our lives and what's so great about Disaster Artist is that it really shows how there is an art to making a true bad movie

The room and birdemic... they're the kings

It's why I have no interest in stuff like Sharknado, which is purposefully absurd and trying to be "bad". It's way less interesting when they're trying to elicit that sort of reputation, as opposed to Tommy, who worked really, really hard to actually bring his earnest vision to life.

I get it, for instance I've never seen Jupiter Ascending but I'm so glad that exists, I want people to make weird passion pieces

That's cool, but maybe now The Room will feel like less of a waste of time if you were to go back and see it.

I too thought it was gonna be a waste of time, but I finally watched it the other day and am glad I did. Now I'm excited for the Disaster Artist whereas before I was kind of indifferent.

If you have to see The Room to appreciate The Disaster Artist then it is not an effective film. Ed Wood is great and I never saw any of the films referenced throughout the film.

That's a fair point. Ed Wood is great and I've never seen any of those films either, nor do I care too.

For me personally, I was hesitant to give 2 hours of my life to The Room, but I'm glad I did. I'm now listening to the How Did This Get Made episode and gaining more appreciation for The Room. I'll likely watch The Room again.
