you're in a cult, call your dad

Saw this on Saturday with my wife and some friends and everyone LOVED it. So hysterical and tastefully done. Wish I knew there was an after credits scene! Guess I'll have to grab this on Blu-ray when it comes out.

The real Tommy (playing a man named Henry with shorter hair) meets James Franco playing Tommy at a rooftop party. Henry is almost purposely antagonizing "Tommy" and he becomes increasingly annoyed.

Funniest part is "Tommy" asking Henry about his accent. "“Where are you from, New Orleans?”"

I read the Disaster Artist in a day yesterday. Lots of stuff was left out that makes the story a lot more fascinating. I get why some changes were made. The invention of the Malcolm in the Middle part for Greg offers a dramatized example of Greg having a bit of legitimized success, that, however tiny, makes Tommy incredibly jealous and mean and vindictive, then exercising his power over Greg, which there’s a lot of in the book but it would be harder to dramatize Greg’s real life part in Puppet Master/endless auditions when he and Tommy were actually in different cities at the time. But Greg didn’t feel as fed up with Tommy during the shoot as it came across in the book, Dave Franco’s supportiveness was written/played more genuine than Greg and Tom Bissell wrote it, his dependency on the money and car weren’t included, which I think was an unfortunate omission, and while I think the RLM guys are right about the lackluster dramatization of the end of the shoot/eight months until the premiere after Tommy and Greg’s fight, the resolution in the book isn’t much more powerful. I wouldn’t have minded if they took some liberties there to say something more interesting or earn their ending statement a little more.

Still a wonderful movie that made me laugh a lot.

Were the events depicted shooting the sex scene accurate in the movie?

The Malcolm In The Middle thing made sense to me, Greg just wanted a spot on Gilmore Girls while Tommy would rather die

Plus probably an excuse for Franco to work with Bryan again after they were in that movie that came out last year

Yeah, there are connections all over the place in the film. I really want to see it again after reading the credits, so many people listed who I missed in the film. I assume most were in the audience at the premiere.

I don’t know if anybody caught this, but the guy who plays Greg is actually James Franco’s brother

Also for those who read the book... at the premiere, did it receive that much of a reaction where every audience member was laughing hysterically at every second of it by the end of the movie?

From what I remember, no it did not. But it’s been a few years since I read the book.

No, in the book the premiere was mostly full of people who Tommy paid to be there. A film student saw it the second weekend it premiered and starting spreading the word, which is how the seed was planted

In the book he recalls an incident where she was in a backless dress and Tommy very bluntly and rudely said they needed to cover her back pimples and that she needed to be sexy, much like in the movie, except the movie depicted it during the sex scene. In the book she cries or holds back tears during Tommy’s abuse but says she’s fine and can work. In the book for the sex scene she does request they play something romantic to get in the mood, and says “like Alicia Keys maybe”, and Tommy does say “We’re not here to promote other people’s work”. But I think it might have been a Mark/Lisa love scene, not Tommy and Lisa.

I’m going to my hometown for the rest of the month tomorrow, and since the movie theatre there is so bland I’m taking a bus an hour out rn to double feature this with Three Billboards. I’ve never watched two movies back to back at a theatre before

My first apartment was in the middle of nowhere but the three closest movie theaters were each 30 minutes away so I knocked out double features a bunch of times. The trick is to figure out movie times so there would be minimal waiting in between movies.

I loved this. I gotta give this crew credit. It may not always work out but it's cool to see them try unique concepts for comedies. Sausage party, this is the end, north Korea movie...

    They try. This was great
