I didn’t really like his screaming on anything post-8:18 except for Space EP and ZII, so I welcome this

Probably my least favorite of the singles they've released so far. I'll remain in the minority but I'm not COMPLETELY down on what I've heard so far.

Check the comments section: Kyle didn’t write or even record on Flowers and it wasn’t by choice either.

I’m legitimately hating this record the more I hear about it lol

Feels like this is their real “go for it” record. I respect the risk taking, but it’s shaping up that there’s not much here for me personally, unfortunately.

Man I have stood by this band through all iterations but this irks the fuck out of me. I get making a big swing but this just seems like an uncalled for move on their part

this feels like the worst case scenario version of what Underoath did during the recording of Erase Me. whereas Grant and James never did a lot of writing for the band's material, Prada is cutting out others who have contributed to the Banda music in favor of supporting the milquetoast vision of a couple core members (note that i really liked Erase Me and the songs on that record, while not Underoath'a strongest, outpace every single from Flowers by miles). it's all dumb and i'm not looking forward to spinning this album

kyles comments seem to suggest outside help from la songwriters too

I didn't even hate the songs as much as others seem to (although I haven't listened to the latest one yet) but yikes that's unfortunate to see

The songs just sound so lifeless to me. Very copy and paste with nothing interesting to say. The title track has some cool moments and I like Ritual but the rest very much sucks in my opinion. I deleted the album from my Apple Music library. There’s no way I like this.

Yeahhhh; I hate to come off as a gossip but between this and Mason out of nowhere leaving the band? Just doesn’t feel right.

They’re putting out their most mediocre music to date and alienating someone who’s been a steady writer for the last decade for “LA songwriters”? Lame as hell. You can tell Kyle is bummed out about it (he straight up says it’s sad in the comments) and I don’t blame him.

  15. Wish I had a career songwriting in LA so I could make bank penning songs this flavorless, sounds like the dream

    Better in time

Not trying to question his integrity here, but why is he sticking around with the band if this is the case? Dude is talented and knows people will listen to his music.

he gets to play guitar for a living - that was essentially his response

seems like, for him, this is a compromise worth making and i can't say for sure that i wouldn't do the same thing

I'm now seeing this post about Kyle everywhere on social media and the main argument I'm seeing is that 'this is happening all the time in the industry and we're just unaware of it' Fair enough if there's just a few people who write the songs, but surely it's regular that the band members, even if they didn't write the songs, would still be involved in recording them ?

    For TDWP? Yup.

Also; Kyle wrote on the last record and played on it too. Same for ZII, The Act, Transit Blues, and Space EP.

We reach for the longest shadow

I don't think it's abnormal for rhythm guitar players to not be involved in the songwriting process. I know of other bands that had a similar setup, but I haven't heard of it happening much where a rhythm guitar contributed previously and then was not involved in later albums.
