Album continues to grow on me. There's something about the LACK of Mike that when he actually does show up, he's not phoning it in. His anguished growl is felt through the speakers and I feel it adds a other layer to the song. While I think 8:18 and The Act did it better, these songs....the album.....it has its own vibe. It's a mood. Take.......Eyes for example. Mike can softly in the background throughout the beginning and once the chorus hits he gets to go at it. It's not the typical TDWP song, and Mike isn't even in it a lot but when he IS, he elevates it.
Was avoiding this album but All Out was added to my new music playlist. I actually dig it?! Are there more songs like that on the album? Anyone have that new song link? Is the YouTube upload the best we have?
I guess that was poorly worded. There’s just other releases at the moment combined with a busy time of the year. I should download it and give it a spin for sure.
I just watched their Warped Tour full set which was recently uploaded - Mike sounds absolutely unbelievable and really goes for it. I was so pleasantly surprised. Jeremy's vocals on the other hand were a bit eeeeeek. Surprising he does lead vocals on all of these new songs but can't hit the notes live. The chorus of Ritual for example
I think they dumbed down a lot of his parts a few albums ago because he hates practicing the guitar. This is also why Mike should be the guitarist on the new album but they have him running around doing nothing for most of a song until he gets his moment. EDIT: I’m also pretty sure Jeremy is the only one using a pedal board with multiple pedals whereas Kyle (and previously Mason) use a quad cortex.
A shame Jeremy is so sloppy here because the rest of the band, Mike especially, is on fire and the new bassist is a great fit
i checked out dogs can grow beards all over from that video and that's the same dude on the record? that was rough.
Wild how good Mike is and how the new album went lol, but I'm happy they're still making music after all this time
I'm revisiting The Act for the first time in years and it's such a singular album in their discography. It gets as mellow as they get on the new one, except there's constantly a dark, gloomy atmosphere permeating the songs. I remember them saying they were inspired by Chelsea Wolfe while making it and I can hear it in the production and songwriting choices (especially from Isn't It Strange onwards). Wild how they went from that to FL Studio tutorial sounding synths and electronic bits lol
