I like the song. Very different vibes but I dig it. Music video was great too.

Dude…what happened to this band? Music aside, their lyrics are sooooooooo baaaaad compared to their first few records. I’m fine with bands experimenting with genres (like Deafheaven did over the course of a few albums), but that doesn’t mean you have to forsake other elements that made the band great.

Mike wrote the lyrics from Dear Love - The Act

I don’t think he is the lyricist anymore.

Tbh I never thought that lyrics were TWDP’s strong suit. Even on their earlier albums. I can see not liking their pivot to a more Octane style sound. Out of their newest batch of tracks I would say For You is pretty cringey lyrically, but I haven’t minded the rest. I like the combo of tracks put into that music video. Dear Love had some really cringey lyrics though too so I feel like it’s been pretty consistent.

“Be gone with you, you articles of nothingness I don’t know what I have to do to prove myself This audience is stern”

They all share lyric duties these days I believe. Mike has writing credits for Ritual but not on Where The Flowers Never Grow.

Strange that Mike would have less writing duties seeing as he’s written and released some poetry.

I really do wonder if they sat down and said look, if we remain as heavy as we have been through our careers, Mike’s voice is going to burn out real fast and we won’t even be able to tour much. It does seem like a ticking time clock for his vocals. The only way to prevent that clock from ticking even faster is for him to dramatically reduce his screaming duties on future records. Dude doesn’t scream nearly as much on these new tracks.

I loved the two new singles. I think it’ll be a really fun record to listen to, albeit a very different one than anything else they’ve done, and that’s okay.
