I'm someone who's followed TDH from almost back to its inception, but always preferred TREOS at the end of the day. For me, Acts II and IV are the most melodically rich and interesting. Indigo and Violet on The Color Spectrum are also go-tos. Your idea of TDH as acoustic isn't entirely wrong. Virtually every release has at least a few stripped down tunes that just aren't that interesting to me, and seem mainly to be fodder for diehard followers of the story/concept. There's no single TDH release that even comes close to BTHATS, imo, even though he's put out a shit ton of good stuff over time.
the fact that there is a new EP and all of our talk centers around the Acts makes me wonder about the future of the band outside of the Acts... Idk I just can't connect to anything else and I don't know why
I think the EP is really good, Color Spectrum is great, and I honestly think Migrant is bad. I agree it’s hard to really connect with the stuff that isn’t Act related for some reason. Not sure why
yea, I tried listening to the EP and couldn't get into it. My fiancee loves Migrant but I can't get into it. I don't think its bad just not something that I love
The one song on the EP that ends with repetitive line for a minute and a half...really takes me out of it. Might have to take that song off my Spotify playlist.
I liked the new EP a lot. And I think it was pretty well received by the fans. Migrant is my favorite Dear Hunter album though. I just think Act V is the best place to start. So I’m still really excited about the future of the band.
I listened to the first three acts of yesterday. It inspired me to begin to write a journal to give to my future children. Eventually I'm going to structure it as a secret rite of passage website and leave room for my children to add their stories and thoughts to hand-down to their children.
I listened to all the Acts (there were 4 at the time) and it was an absolutely amazing experience. It was incredible to see a band grow in many ways and I had some inspiration too, not as great as your idea though. It's great to see a band influence life like this and I know that when we get the last Act it's going to be emotional and brilliant.
I have so much to say about how great this band is. I almost bought everything on vinyl after onl having heard the first 3 acts once. I’m realizing that Casey made TREOS special for me and these records pretty much have everything I love about music distilled perfectly.
Migrant was the first album that really clicked with me, then I absolutely loved Act IV and V. now that i've had plenty of time with those, i've been able to go back and really get an appreciation for act I and II, the last one for me to really get to know is act III. i remember when i first listened a very long time ago i wasn't into this band, was maybe a bit too "theatrical" for me and I was into heavier stuff at the time. but damn, the entire discography is so great, and has so much to offer!
it is awesome to see how much you are loving this, @thenewmatthewperry. have you listened to act V yet? it honestly might be my favorite.
I just started it right now! I'm on The Moon / Awake Act 4 was good but felt like it was missing something in the mid section. I need to listen to it again. Ourboros and The Old Haunt are my favorites.
I do not, I've just been listening to the ginormous discography in order before I listen to the Acts closely for the story.
Act IV definitely needs quite a few listens to sink in, at first i knew i liked it, but you gotta really get to know it, and then its incredible!
i want to go see this tour so badly!! they are also releasing a 7" split where TDH and BTBAM are covering eachother's songs. BTBAM is covering "The Tank", have yet to hear what song TDH is doing, but i am stoked.
Is it, though? I was under the impression it's one the favorites from Act III for most people, myself included.
