Yeah agreed with the above. He's still got such a creative mind as a musician but he's leaning into a style of Dear Hunter that i enjoy the least.
I just will never get to grips with this light poppy funk sound, it feels like incidental music for an insurance commercial he's obviously talented as hell and they still rip live but I will never understand how we went from the Acts to this
Sadly the last one I really loved from him was Act V I think. Always check out his stuff and try and catch him live when he comes around, but nothings stuck for me in years. Also, idk if the tide has changed much, but it felt like for years I was in the minority of folks who really love Migrant. I’d love a proper follow up to that album.
I really should give Migrant a go with a fresh perspective. This band and Coheed (favorite band ever) really only work for me within the bounds of their story, and while Coheed seemed to switch stories with a similar vibe, I don't feel like TDH did that, and literally anything outside of the Acts (other than a few songs on the Color Spectrum) doesn't resonate with me at all.
I actually liked Antimai. It was funky and a little corny. But it was catchy and had parts that got stuck in my head often. This is a little boring tho.
sounds mean but I'm really glad this album is the end of this story apparently. hopefully they go back to the creative well for whatever's next
Going to have to give this a couple of listens. Mauraders was the only one that jumped out at me at first, but had the kids in the car, wasn't able to give my full attention to it.
I have never listened to this band before but I am seeing them Friday (because I want to see K Sera) and the new album is fun as hell for this brand new listener.
Oh man do you have a large back catalogue to dive into if you end up enjoying the show. I went on Friday in San Diego and all three artists were awesome. Dear Hunter had seven people up there: highly technical, and everyone was locked in...down to matching guitars
I am listening to their most popular songs on Apple Music and I guess I’m surprised at how overall accessible it all is sonically? Like I avoided this band as a kid because of the prog label and now I’m like wait… this is all pretty damn catchy.
