Yeah, this is great. They've done a really good job of moving their sound forward while still retaining a familiar identity. Love all the arrangements with the interweaving melodies. Can't say I really care about investing in a new narrative/world, and some of the exposition is a bit clunky, but that doesn't stop it being an enjoyable listen.
This is way easier to digest than their previous stuff, in a good way. I find myself listening to it more than when their previous albums came out. I know there are still long songs here (8 songs in 50 minutes) but the overall runtime and vibe/production makes it a much less exhausting listen.
Ive never actually listened to this band. Always been familiar with them, was a big fan of TREOS. This record has been my introduction to the band and I've gotta say I'm enjoying the hell out of it.
Yeah this is the most I've enjoyed a Casey project in a long time. Tower is their best album closer since Act II
Okay. Loving Antimai. Where do I start with their back catalogue. Do I start with Act I and work my way up? Or go backwards.
Unless you are just super into the lore of bands, I would start with Act IV and V. I think it's collectively their strongest output. I could put together a quick list of what I think are essential tracks from the first three if you want.
I recently started with Act I and really like it. Looking forward to seeing the progression over time. Might listen to Act II today actually.
That sounds wonderful actually. If that's something you had time to do/wanted to do id check that out for sure! Will dive into IV & V at some point today as well.
Act I: City Escape Act II: The Procession The Lake and the River Red Hands Where the Road Parts Dear Ms. Leading Act III: In Cauda Venenum The Tank Mustard Gas He Said He Had A Story YMMV, I enjoy the more prog rock/straightforward catchy stuff. Some of his more musical/baroque sounding stuff won't be on my list.
Not wanting to really get into it, but wild to me to think City Escape is the only essential Act I song. Also, you simply have to add Church and the Dime to Act II, its the law.
I think it helps you know quickly if you want to dive further into that one. Casey's voice sounds vastly different then than it does now. I just think the ones I mentioned are the best entry points to help you have a better idea of what full length to listen to next.
I would personally absolutely have Hands Matched His Tongue on there but that might be my favourite piece of music he's ever done
Imo 1878, Pimp and thr Priest, and HHMHT are more essential tracks for Act I. Hell, I'd probably put Battesimo up there too. On a side note, I listened to Act II last night for the first time in a while and it remains an all time favourite album. So special.
This actually helped a lot! Will certainly be diving further into those first 3 records after hearing those songs. I do lean more towards the prog/catchy stuff but I'm okay with musical sounding stuff too. So I guess this will all be right up my alley.
Heard this and Act II yesterday. Act II still such a classic hadn't heard it in forever, but I've really come to enjoy Antimai. I think it's their best since Migrant. What's the consensus around that album now that it's been over a year?
I really liked Act IV and V and I thought Antimai was on par with those. Maybe slightly better for being less bloated and executing the vision more succinctly.
I feel like the concept of Antimai, a ringed city that has differences in each ring, would make for a cool TV premise.
i love Antimai! it doesn't quite top Act IV for me, but it's definitely really close and i love the sound they are going for on there and can't wait for them to keep expanding it!
man first impression but i'm just not into this. the remix quality itself is gorgeous but so many uncanny valley moments where they just took out the best parts of songs for no reason. Whisper and Girl intros are both just so much worse haha, the new outro of Let Go is great though
