I’m doing my absolute best to not listen to these before having the full album, and I’ve really never had that problem before, but for some reason this one / these ones are really tempting to hear but gonna try and hold off.
Kind of hard to wrap my head around this coming out tomorrow since I've been so heavily engrossed with Coheed, but I'm very excited to hear it.
The people that have heard it on TDH's subreddit seem to really like it so far. Not seeing any negative comments. Getting hyped. Might listen through Act's IV and V today.
this... isn't doing it for me. they were my favourite band once upon a time but I can't get into them the same way anymore nice to just hear Casey sing again, though. goddamn what a voice
A really cool album, does a lot of things outside of their comfort zone. They gotta tour with a horn section on this right??
this is incredible!! could it be their most prog album yet? i really think they nailed this sound, it's so good and a huge departure from the Acts, but still sounds very much like them. the jazz and funk infusion definitely reminds me of the thank you scientist prog metal sound, which i absolutely love, so i'm very happy they are heading in this direction! so stoked to hear this live!
Pumped to listen, TYS never clicked with me because of the vocals and I know that’s not a problem with TDH.
Instrumentally and vocally Antimai is fantastic, and I'm guessing its also pretty clever lyrically. I really can't stress how much I dig the musical direction they went with on this one. However.... I can't seem to get into another story. I think I'm pretty much past it at this point in my life. It doesn't have the same pull as it used to I guess. It's kind of neat to see his interest in movies like Metropolis and stuff from Terry Gilliam really being a huge inspiration for this concept though. I'm still holding out for another "normal" album a la Migrant. I want something personal and relatable. I think I was secretly hoping fatherhood would spawn a similar masterpiece as Sturgill Simpson's A Sailor's Guide to Earth. Great album, and at moments it's incredible, but still somewhat of a bittersweet disappointment. Damn, you have a couple of albums to check out then lol Act III: Life and Death, The Color Spectrum, Migrant, Act IV: Rebirth in Reprise, and Act V: Hymns with the Devil in Confessional. You're in for a treat!
I enjoyed this on first listen, but the singles were the ones that stood out the most. Probably just means it’ll grow on me. production is immaculate as always though. Casey is incredibly talented.
This is an absolute jam. I haven’t really listened to TDH since the Colors album - have I been missing out?!
It’s less of a story and more of a commentary on social classes in American IMO… using a metaphorical city and backdrop of course:
I might be crazy, but some of the horns here remind me of how Sturgill Simpson utilized them on A Sailor's Guide to Earth. Second half of Ring 5 in particular remind me of Keep It Between the Lines. EDIT: If anyone is like me and a little lost on how Antimai/The Indigo Child go together, I asked Casey on Twitter and he said this:
This is a lot of fun. One of my personal knocks on this band has been that their music / sound is also so serious / heavy (not metal heavy but like “emotionally heavy”) and this doesn’t come off that way has some spunk and pop to it and all the horns someone could want which is great and will make this easier to come back to and gel with faster than most of their other work (for me a my least)
