I don't know anything about the books, other than there are many of them. But this looks pretty generic, and probably impossible to cram all that content into just a single movie.
I've always meant to read the books and never have gotten around to it. Was really excited for a trailer and that looks cheesy as fuck.
Reminds me of something like Jonah Hex or I dunno, that type of quality. I always thought there was a TON of depth to this series and a very rich atmosphere. This just looks like a cowboy type dude wandering into modern day NY. Also, I've never liked Elba's American accent, other than The Wire. EDIT: Is this movie only covering The Gunslinger book? If so, there is one particular part which I'm certain the movie will NOT do.
If you don't know anything about it, then why do you feel the need to make comments about it? It's not just going to be a single movie. There will be a TV series for it as well. "I don't know anything about this, so I'll just compare it to Jonah Hex!"
I can compare what the trailer looks like to an existing movie. I'm simply asking if this is going to cover the Dark Tower series, of just the first book.
Trolling? I just watched the trailer and gave an opinion, I'm sorry that it differs from yours. Plus, I'm not even the first person who said something negative. What the fuck is drstrong? I've seen that referenced a few times recently.
I'm confused @RonandTammy , you said you know nothing about the books except that there's many of them, and then you say you know there's a part in The Gunslinger that you're certain the movie won't do haha. Have you read the books or not?
While I see what you're saying, the trailer makes this out to be a fairly cliche summer blockbluster and a quick glance around the web leads me to believe this is not unpopular opinion. Is it really that bad to think that something widely perceived to be good could be and looks to be adapted into something, um, not very good?
I looked up the book series and skimmed the plot of the first one. I didn't realize there were so many, so I was curious.
Ah okay, well yeah as others have mentioned this isn't going to be a single movie and this isn't a direct book to movie adaptation. I'm not exactly sure how many movies and tv seasons there's going to be, but they're definitely not trying to cram 8 books (counting the wind through the keyhole) into one movie.
Oh alright, I literally didn't know. Movie's based on King's stuff are really hit or miss, with more misses than hits, IMO. Then again I have a thing for Maximum Overdrive and I don't give a shit what people say.
As a fan of movies, I think it looks fine. As a fan of TDK, I can't help but be excited. Edit: it looks better than I thought it would
I would trust that McConaghey and Ilba would put faith in the adaptation or else they wouldn't have done it... Even so, it seems like the marketing team is screwing the pooch with the movie and I hope it has good reviews to bring back interest.
The trailer really does feel like a generic young adult/comic book movie. The mystery and ambiance of the books was SO unique and one of my favorite things about them. This trailer is really missing the mark for me and I was already very skeptical about this. We'll see, I guess. Wouldn't be the first time there's a disconnect between marketing/trailers and the movie... but that was bad. I love the other King references sprinkled in. Overlook Hotel, Pennywise tent, I'm sure there's more. That gives me hope, if anything, of care and attention to detail being applied to this.
I don't know why I would expect anything different, but I was hoping the trailer would be.....slower. Do you guys think we'll get Tull? I feel like that's critical to setting up Roland's character.
I'm pretty sure I saw what could be an adaptation of Tull in the trailer. This trailer felt way more Drawing of the Three than Gunslinger.
The poster I quoted seems to pop up in nearly every horror related thread with negative posting. I'm fine with critiques about movie trailers, but to make a statement claiming he doesn't know anything about the source material and then go on and bash the product is ridiculous to me. But hey, at least he read the Wikipedia description of The Gunslinger...that sure makes it valid. It's fine to voice an opinion, but to me, his opinion flew out the window when I saw his "criticisms" about Get Out.
I don't need to be familiar with the source material to critique the trailer. Besides the character names and some locations, what from the trailer actually came from the source material? I don't need to know anything about The Dark Tower to be able to follow along with that trailer. It looks like a generic sci-fi action flick, at least that's the vibe the trailer conveys. There is no argument to that point. I'm sorry if you have a hard-on for me and feel the need to comment on everything that I say.
You accidentally calling The Dark Tower TDK a few times really says something about how huge The Dark Knight is
