I know he commented on a Narrative news article on AP with the comment "I think I sexually harassed this girl on Warped Tour" or something in that vein. Dude is a piece of shit and needs to be far away from the music scene.
All of their threads on AP would turn into a debate on whether or not fans should support a band with a member like Cody in it, or to just enjoy the music and keep things separated. It was such a bore. I don't miss those debates, Cody, or the band for that matter. With all of the awesome bands releasing music the last few years, I have never felt once that we need a follow up to Golden Record. Maybe that's just me.
The Dangerous Summer was sullied for me when I got ripped off with the fake 'Reach for the Sun' signed chord book. It wasn't as advertised, at all, the signatures were fakes (per AJ) and it was the first time I really understood that Cody was a legitimate thief and criminal (and not run of the mill shitty band dude). I basically just hadn't looked at anything Cody related - it just wasn't the sort of thing I usually paid attention to. That, though, got my attention, and looking back at all that's Cody had done (the book was like the 43rd worst thing he'd done) just killed my love for the band. The other dudes could all be awesome, but associating with him as long as they did enabled him to hurt people. They shoulder some of that blame. Anyway, time has passed and I can listen occasionally again. I won't love them like I did before though, which may not be totally fair if the band gets back together without him, but still - it's just the truth. The lesson: don't enable shitty people to hurt other people.
Though I love the band and have no negative feelings towards AJ / Tyler / Brian / Ben, it's worth remembering that all of them were known for incidents throughout their run. Though they may not all have been shitty people like Cody, they were often unprofessional and it cost them a lot of opportunities along the way.
I still consistently listen to their 3 albums. Would like get new music in any form even a new project.
especially if AJ, Bryan, and Tyler form a new 3-piece band under a new name to avoid any legal issues from Cody if they try and use The Dangerous Summer name
Sometimes I think this band was meant for the 70s and 80s when band members being pieces of shit and treating fans like garbage resulted in massive success. Then again, they'd also have to be making hair metal
Didnt the bass player of versa emerge throw a glass bottle at cody while he was performing for previously talking shit? I vaguely remember something like that happening before the breakup
Think it was the other way around but I'm not sure Edit: nope, this is Codys statement so make of it what you will Alter The Press!: The Dangerous Summer Release Statement About VersaEmerge US Tour
Safe to say I didn't make any friends with the band on the last page. Hopefully they are in a better place now and they take advantage of whatever opportunities they are presented.
If you're referring to the teeet where AJ says he saw this thread I think he took it very humbly and understood what was said to be harsh but not mean. At least thats how I understood the tweet.
That is the hope. At the same time they are probably like, fuck this random guy behind a keyboard haha. I certainly wouldn't blame them.
If more of War Paint was of the quality of "I Should Leave Right Now" and more of Gold Record was on par with "Catholic Girls", I'd be much happier with their catalog.
