Amazing the band even lasted long enough to put out the 3 albums they did. Wish they could have just moved on without Cody though. AJ not being in music anymore is pretty sad.
Man, War Paint is getting a lot of love from me lately. Surprisingly good fall album imo. Maybe my new favorite of theirs.
I wrote about Reach for the Sun for Modern Vinyl's Thanksspinning "Album I'm Thankful For" series. Thanksspinning: The Dangerous Summer — Reach for the Sun
I can't remember the last time I listened to these guys. RFTS never hit me like it did for most at AP. This band had some good songs, but their albums felt like they dragged on. They were just never a band I felt like supporting much during my poor college years.
I'll never forget coming home during my last month of my senior year of high school after hearing Reach for the Sun had leaked, scouring the internet for that all-important Mediafire link, spinning this on my spanking new iPod touch, and getting absolutely wrecked by Weathered. Gonna have to listen to this today and read Craig's piece after.
This was pretty much exactly me. I downloaded it when I got home from my sister's college graduation, a month before my high school graduation. I talk a lot about how it encapsulated the end of high school in that piece.
I remember my freshman year of high school getting If You Could... at Best Buy the day it came out, and doing the same my senior year for Reach for the Sun. It's still crazy to me (maybe not considering all the shit that happened after War Paint) to think about how they almost collapsed. For a few years, I thought they would never come out with anything after the first EP. Definitely think Reach has been the most important album in my life thus far. There are so many instances where I can relate a song from that album to a specific time in my life. One thing I wish I could go back in time and do is get a tattoo related to RFTS instead of IYCOKMA.
Funny, RFTS is by far my least favorite from them. Warpaint was amazing, Golden Record had like 3 good songs
War Paint still means the most to me but both that and RFTS are p much all nostalgia at this point. Golden Record still has catholic girls, sins and knives though
I love the production on RFTS. When it came out, I thought it was refreshing. Just the right amount of sheen to it
I'm sure a big part of the reason I love both Reach and War Paint is nostalgia, but I still think they're fantastic records. I feel like I'd enjoy them even if they came out today, though I'm sure they wouldn't connect on anywhere close to the same level.
I still listen to War Paint and RFTS on a weekly basis. I don't think I'll ever not listen to them. Two of the handful of magnum opuses(?) that this niche of music has given us.
vibing/connecting so hard to them recently. Everyone Left and Weathered have been in my head (and on my phone) all day today
"it's been a bad year so let me sleep in one more day" has been bouncing around my head for more than one reason. may need to purge my soul with war paint on the bus home tomorrow
It's funny this thread got bumped in the past 24 hours. When I seen it I thought someone spilled the beans Guess I will. Hopeless is doing a RFTS repress/If You Could 10 year EP limited first press No idea on time frame. Was just told soon.
Ha, people on the Modern Vinyl Facebook post were saying they thought my article was going to be repress news, so I'll share your post with them.
Eh, I'd rather have War Paint get a pressing. RFTS is great, and I loved it when it came out, but when WP came out it completely blew that out of the water. I will admit, I was also in a place of rediscovery and moving on from friendships/a relationship, so the entire "rebirth" concept on that record really hit home for me.
