This literally happens all. the. time. Bands write steps down and then shift upwards to get a poppier sound (I think) on the album - it's unfortunate.
I think it would be almost impossible to make a case for their worst song coming from any album that isn't Golden Record.
Before Golden Record I thought every song was an 8/10 at very worst. Golden Record had one or two I would struggle to give a five.
The vocals for most of Golden Record are literally unlistenable, lol. I LOVE the first two records and wish they were still together, though.
All the songs that everyone seems to love here from Golden Record are definitely my least favorite from the band.
I definitely like Fog more than Pathetic, Knives, or the song I trashed on the last page that I can't even remember I dislike it so much lol
considering RFTS and WP are their best albums, I can confidently say that Catholic girls isn't even in my top 10 TDS songs
I love near every song this band ever made, and certainly every song on the first 2 albums. Work In Progress is by far their best song imo.
Take your pick of Never Feel Alone, Weathered, The Permanent Rain, Northern Lights, Siren, No One's Gonna Need You More, or Waves. I would be comfortable calling any of those their best song.
I'd even say that some of the songs on that EP they had are better than Catholic Girls, but I like being contrarian lol
"Work In Progress" is their best song, lyrically, musically, emotionally and structurally for me at least. But I have a very deep rooted connection to that song in particular.
